Zoox is an autonomous-vehicle developer owned by Amazon. Founded in 2014, it designs purpose-built, symmetrical electric robotaxis for dense urban environments, handling all sensing, mapping, planning, and fleet operations in-house. Vehicles lack traditional controls, carry four passengers bidirectionally, and are monitored from a central operations center. Zoox completed its first employee-only public-road pilot in Foster City, California, in 2023 and is expanding testing in Las Vegas, Seattle, and San Francisco while preparing commercial ride-hail deployment.
