- • Design, construct, test, debug, and support enterprise healthcare software solutions on the IBM i platform using ILE RPG / RPGLE.
- • Develop and maintain applications using ILE RPG / RPGLE, CL, embedded SQL, Db2 for i, SQL procedures, and user-defined functions in a production environment.
- • Own complex product enhancements, defect resolution, and production issue resolution for long-lived commercial healthcare software systems.
- • Analyze existing IBM i applications to recommend improvements in reliability, maintainability, performance, and supportability.
- • Contribute to modernization initiatives by refactoring legacy RPG code, reducing technical debt, and adopting modular, SQL-driven application design patterns.
- • Apply engineering standards for code quality, testing, configuration management, documentation, security, and release readiness across IBM i applications.
- • Provide accurate effort estimates and deliver assigned development tasks within agreed timelines and sprint cycles.
- • Troubleshoot and resolve high-complexity application, data, batch, integration, and performance issues on the IBM i platform.
- • Participate in architecture, design, and technical review discussions for IBM i applications and their integrations with external systems.
- • Identify deficiencies in system design, application logic, or engineering processes and propose actionable improvements.
- • Help prioritize development tasks and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level developers.
- • Mentor other developers through code reviews, design feedback, troubleshooting support, and knowledge sharing.
- • Collaborate with product owners, QA teams, DBAs, architects, support staff, and implementation teams to deliver reliable and regulated software changes.
- • Maintain compliance with the MEDHOST Quality Management System and meet applicable regulatory requirements for healthcare software.
- • Deliver technical presentations during the interview process detailing personal contributions to recent RPG/RPGLE enhancements, including business purpose, technical implementation, testing, and deployment.
- • Ensure all work aligns with software version control, change management, controlled promotion, and release processes.
- • Perform other duties as required to support organizational and product needs in a remote, US-based environment.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of commercial software or enterprise application development experience
- • 5+ years of hands-on IBM i development experience with recent (within last 3 years) production RPG/RPGLE development
- • Strong working knowledge of ILE RPG / RPGLE (fixed-format and/or free-form), CL, embedded SQL, Db2 for i, physical/logical files, service programs, and batch processing
- • Strong SQL skills including Db2 for i queries, joins, stored procedures, functions, and performance troubleshooting
- • Experience owning complex enhancements, defects, or modernization work in long-lived enterprise software products
- • Experience participating in agile practices including sprint planning, backlog refinement, story estimation, code review, and iterative delivery
