Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own and ship entire accounting modules including close, revenue, cash, reporting, accruals, or fixed assets — from backend services and agent workflows to accountant-facing interfaces, with no platform team or product manager handing off specs.
- • Design and implement sub-ledger primitives that are flexible enough to model any accounting workflow while maintaining rigid audit trails for regulatory compliance.
- • Build an agent platform that enables pods to ship audit-ready agents in days, not months, by eliminating redundant work across teams on evaluation, guardrails, and observability.
- • Encode auditability as a core system property rather than an afterthought or manual checklist item that engineers must remember to add.
- • Design a close orchestration layer that accommodates 1,000+ unique close calendars while ensuring auditors can trust the system’s consistency and traceability.
- • Define and operationalize engineering excellence for non-deterministic systems in regulated financial environments, making it teachable and repeatable for new engineers.
- • Anticipate long-term architectural consequences; ensure decisions made in 2026 do not create technical debt or constraints that trap the company in 2029.
- • Fluently operate AI coding agents like Claude and Cursor as a second cortex — use them daily to write, debug, and ship production code, selecting the right agent for each task.
- • Work end-to-end across the stack: LLM pipelines, infrastructure, backend services, and UX — no distinction between frontend and backend; product judgment and system design drive delivery.
- • Collaborate directly with finance professionals (controllers, accountants) to observe workflows, uncover unspoken edge cases, and translate real-world accounting processes into code within hours.
- • Operate as a founder within your pod: scope your own work, own decisions, think about customer impact, and close the loop from problem identification to shipped feature.
- • Prioritize 100% correctness over 80% solutions; when systems break, trace to root cause and implement durable fixes.
- • Raise the ceiling for your pod of 2–3 engineers by being a generalist within the pod and a specialist across the company — holding entire modules in your head and shipping them independently.
- • Ship production AI agents, not demos — integrate them into live financial workflows with real data, monitoring, and guardrails.
- • Work in-person in New York City; collaboration and compounding knowledge require physical co-location.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of software engineering experience, primarily in backend or infrastructure roles
- • Strong backend proficiency in Python, Go, Java, Rust, or similar modern languages; willingness to ramp quickly on Python if coming from another stack
- • Proven experience building hard backend systems such as distributed pipelines, transactional or ledger systems, integration platforms, or workflow engines
- • Experience working at an early-stage startup (pre-seed through Series B)
🏖️ Benefits
- • Top-of-market compensation benchmarked to top NYC startups
- • Meaningful early-stage equity in a company already shipping to enterprise customers
- • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
- • 401(k) with match, flexible PTO, and paid sick leave
- • Corporate card for meals, stocked office, and commuter benefits
