📋 Description

• Own end-to-end design of major customer journeys across Babylist’s web and native mobile platforms, including registry creation, product discovery, gifting, and early parenthood navigation, ensuring experiences are intuitive, emotionally resonant, and aligned with user trust during high-stakes life moments.
• Define and articulate a 12–18 month design vision for your product area, driving organizational alignment through conviction and evidence-based reasoning, not just consensus.
• Design and build production-quality interfaces using frontend code (React, React Native, or equivalent), eliminating dependency on engineers by implementing transitions, micro-interactions, loading states, error states, and keyboard behaviors directly.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate using AI tools to move from concept to interactive prototype in hours, not days, prioritizing user feedback over polished comps and setting the standard for AI-native design workflows across the team.
• Conduct and lead both generative and evaluative user research, grounding design decisions in qualitative and quantitative insights from real families, and establish fast feedback loops through testing, community channels, and direct customer engagement.
• Contribute to and evolve Babylist’s design system by building reusable components, defining interaction patterns, and ensuring visual and functional consistency across all platforms and product lines.
• Operate with agency: initiate projects, create conditions for success, and act without waiting for permission—biasing toward action, learning through iteration, and turning ambiguity into opportunity.
• Set the bar for product excellence by demonstrating and teaching what great design looks and feels like, emphasizing delight, accessibility, motion, and emotional tone over perfection.
• Scale design democratization by enabling non-designers (product managers, engineers) to contribute meaningfully to the experience layer through AI-enabled workflows, acting as a consultant and quality bar—not a gatekeeper.
• Develop and mentor other designers through specific, timely feedback, active participation in hiring, and sharing of tools, patterns, and practices that accelerate prototyping, polish, and shipping confidence.
• Partner closely with product managers, engineers, and data teams as co-builders, framing problems tightly, bringing user insights to the table, and creating low-friction systems that enable faster, higher-quality shipping.
• Instrument and track the impact of your designs using metrics, holding yourself and the team accountable for meaningful outcomes; make iterate/pivot/stop decisions based on evidence, not attachment.
• Stay deeply fluent in modern product design patterns, borrowing what’s proven and challenging what’s stale, while adapting conventions to meet the unique emotional and functional needs of expecting and new parents.
• Build AI-native workflows for research synthesis, design system evolution, and interaction exploration, then codify and teach these practices to the broader design team.
• Maintain a portfolio of shipped consumer product work across web and mobile that demonstrates obsessive attention to detail, motion, accessibility, and emotional design.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience as a Staff-level Product Designer with a portfolio showcasing shipped consumer products across web and native mobile
• Ability to write production-grade frontend code (React, React Native, or equivalent) and implement designs without engineering dependency
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to rapidly prototype, iterate, and ship design solutions at scale
• Experience leading end-to-end design of complex customer journeys with measurable business impact
• Strong foundation in user research, combining qualitative and quantitative insights to drive design decisions
• Deep understanding of design systems and experience contributing to or evolving them across multiple platforms
