Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • The Acceptance HV/MV Testing Technician Level 1 plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation projects by executing acceptance testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repair activities across diverse field sites.
  • • This remote position requires extensive travel (75% of time) to various job sites nationwide, where the technician will work directly with energized and de-energized electrical systems in substations, BESS, and PV facilities, applying NETA standards and company safety protocols to validate equipment performance and support project handover.
  • • The role emphasizes a strong safety-first culture, requiring strict adherence to OSHA, NFPA 70E, and SOLV Energy’s internal safety programs, while fostering diversity, inclusion, and continuous professional growth through hands-on technical training and mentorship of junior technicians.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include performing acceptance tests on transformers, circuit breakers, cables, motors, generators, and protective relays using specialized test equipment such as Omicron CPC100, Meggers, DLROs, and Fluke multimeters; preparing accurate test reports; documenting findings; communicating results to clients and vendors; and assisting in the training and evaluation of trainee technicians.
  • • Technicians must be proficient in setting up, executing, saving, and reviewing test plans using computerized test systems, entering data into report software, and interpreting results for power factor, turns ratio, insulation resistance, and timing tests on HV/MV equipment.
  • • The role demands physical resilience, including frequent lifting of 50+ lbs, working in extreme weather, climbing, stooping, and operating near live electrical components, while maintaining constant situational awareness and dexterity for precision testing tasks.
  • • Collaboration is key: technicians routinely interface with clients, vendors, engineers, and field teams to ensure timely issue resolution, uphold project schedules, and maintain high standards of workmanship and customer satisfaction.
  • • Performance is measured through successful completion of safety and technical training, adherence to procedures, attendance, client feedback, and contributions to team development and knowledge sharing.
  • • This role offers a clear pathway for skill advancement in electrical testing and commissioning, with exposure to cutting-edge utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure and opportunities to grow into higher-level technician or lead roles within SOLV Energy’s growing power services division.

  • • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory record and ability to operate company vehicles
  • • CPR/First Aid certification and completion of Job Safety Analysis training

  • • Demonstrated ability to recognize work hazards and apply proper mitigation procedures using tools and PPE

  • • Basic life and disability insurance coverage
