- • As an AI Applied Researcher at Hellopatient Inc., you will serve as the in-house expert on cutting-edge AI advancements, driving innovation by evaluating and improving the company’s AI architecture through structured experimentation. Your work will directly influence product development by translating research into actionable insights for engineering teams, ensuring the AI systems powering patient engagement are both state-of-the-art and production-ready.
- • You will design and execute rigorous experiments to test novel AI approaches in prototype environments, applying scientific rigor to determine which architectures, models, or techniques yield superior performance. This includes staying current with the latest AI literature, identifying promising research, and advocating for its exploration within the team to maintain a competitive edge in conversational AI for healthcare.
- • Acting as the team’s prompting expert, you will review, refine, and optimize prompts created by the agent platform team, stepping in on the most complex challenges where standard iterations fail. Your expertise will unblock bottlenecks, improve AI output quality, and elevate the team’s overall productivity through advanced prompt engineering techniques.
- • You will synthesize experimental results into clear, evidence-based reports and recommendations that product engineering can implement, bridging the gap between research and production. This involves collaborating with engineering leads to prioritize experiments, identify foundational improvements to AI systems, and ensure alignment between research goals and product roadmap.
- • Hellopatient is a remote-first, US-based healthtech startup backed by Scale and 8VC, dedicated to transforming healthcare communication through secure, compliant conversational AI. Founded by veterans of Carbon Health’s hypergrowth phase, the company tackles administrative inefficiencies that burden clinicians and frustrate patients, using AI to automate end-to-end interactions like scheduling, billing, and retention.

🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of experience with a PhD; candidates without a PhD must have 4+ years of relevant hands-on experience
- • Strong hands-on experience with LLMs and generative AI (not limited to traditional ML/deep learning)
- • Proven ability to design and run independent AI experiments to explore and problem-solve beyond specifications
- • Expert-level prompting skills with demonstrable examples of improving AI outputs
- • Ability to translate high-level business problems into creative AI architectural solutions
- • Strong written communication skills for producing regular research reports and documentation
