📋 Description

• The AI Deployment Engineer role at OpenAI involves working directly with strategic startup customers to ensure OpenAI’s technology is deployed safely and effectively, acting as a trusted advisor and thought partner to translate real-world usage into product and research improvements.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include prototyping and iterating on prompts, agents, and workflow designs; synthesizing customer feedback into reproducible evaluations and technical artifacts; building repeatable tools and patterns; and collaborating across research, product, and engineering teams to influence model development.
• The team sits at the intersection of customer reality and model quality, combining hands-on technical depth with strong product judgment to improve both customer experience and underlying systems through insights gathered from frontier startups.
• In this role, you will develop deep expertise in AI deployment at scale, shape OpenAI’s research and product roadmap through real-world feedback, and grow as a product-minded engineer capable of navigating ambiguous, high-impact problems in the startup ecosystem.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong software engineering & AI fundamentals, with experience as a startup CTO, software engineer, ML engineer, Data Scientist, or equivalent; shipping production systems end-to-end is a strong plus
• Experience as a technical founder or engineer at an early-stage startup
• Familiarity with or interest in model training pipelines and reinforcement learning
• Experience building AI applications, agents, or evaluation systems, with the ability to reason clearly about model behavior in complex workflows
• Comfort working directly with highly technical users and translating their challenges into concrete technical signals
• Ability to move fluidly between prototyping, debugging, evaluation design, and cross-functional collaboration
• Clear communication across technical and non-technical audiences
• High agency, strong product sense, and a bias toward building durable improvements rather than one-off fixes
