📋 Description

• As an AI-Native Product Designer at Valency Inc., you will help define what good AI design looks like for scientific research, shaping how users interact with cutting-edge agentic research tools in a mission-driven environment focused on open science and accelerating discovery.
• Day to day, you will own the full design arc—from research and sketches to wireframes, prototypes, and production UI—using Figma, code, or paper to prototype quickly, conducting user interviews, translating insights into interaction models, and building a scalable design system while advocating for accessibility and responsible AI patterns.
• You will join a small, dynamic hybrid team of engineers, scientists, and researchers based in Berkeley, CA, collaborating closely as an equal partner—not downstream—to influence what gets built, not just how it looks, with in-person work ~3 days a week and flexible remote options.
• In this role, you will learn to navigate undefined problems at the intersection of AI and scientific workflows, deepen your ability to make complex technical capabilities feel intuitive, and grow your impact by shipping end-to-end designs that advance open science at the speed of thought.

🎯 Requirements

• Use AI tools daily in design work
• Comfortable with code to prototype when it's the fastest path
• Experience shipping complex workflows or data-heavy interfaces for technical users and making them feel simple
• Preference for tackling undefined problems over waiting for detailed briefs
• Ability to balance craft with speed and efficiency
• Comfort being the sole designer in engineer-dominated environments
