đź“‹ Description

  • • Knox Systems is at the forefront of securing critical U.S. government missions by providing robust, secure cloud and AI environments. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated AI Specialist to join our innovative team and play a pivotal role in the development, training, and continuous evolution of KnoxAI, our proprietary AI capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to co-own the advancement of AI solutions that are integral to Knox's secure cloud and compliance mission, supporting national security, public safety, and essential public services.
  • • As an AI Specialist at Knox, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our AI offerings. This role extends beyond traditional model training and experimentation; you will be responsible for the strategic direction and practical implementation of KnoxAI, ensuring its accuracy, explainability, security, and alignment with the evolving needs of our customers and operations. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Product, Security, Compliance, and Operations, to translate complex requirements into production-ready AI systems that meet the highest standards.
  • • This is a hands-on, high-ownership position designed for an exceptional AI practitioner who possesses both deep technical expertise and the ability to thrive in ambiguous, high-stakes environments. At Knox, we are committed to building AI that is not only cutting-edge but also reliable, scalable, and capable of withstanding rigorous scrutiny. Your contributions will be visible, your expertise will be highly valued, and the impact of your work will be immediate and measurable, as you contribute to securing some of the most sensitive government environments in the country.
  • • Key responsibilities will include owning the end-to-end lifecycle of KnoxAI models and systems. This encompasses the design, development, training, and ongoing refinement of these AI capabilities, ensuring they consistently meet stringent business, security, and compliance requirements. You will be tasked with developing and maintaining high-quality training pipelines, which involves meticulous dataset selection, defining effective labeling strategies, establishing robust evaluation frameworks, and implementing continuous feedback loops for iterative improvement.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves enhancing model performance, reliability, explainability, and robustness. You will achieve this through systematic experimentation, meticulous tuning of parameters, and rigorous evaluation methodologies. Your ability to partner effectively with Product and Engineering teams will be crucial in translating real-world Knox use cases into tangible, production-ready AI capabilities, moving beyond mere prototypes to deliver impactful solutions.
  • • Collaboration with our Security and Compliance teams is paramount. You will ensure that all AI systems are designed and implemented in strict adherence to federal requirements, meet auditability expectations, and align with our comprehensive risk management standards. This includes implementing sophisticated monitoring and retraining strategies to proactively detect performance degradation, identify model drift, and mitigate emerging risks over time.
  • • Furthermore, you will contribute significantly to architectural decisions concerning our AI infrastructure, deployment strategies, and MLOps practices within secure, regulated environments. Documenting model behavior, underlying assumptions, limitations, and decision logic will be essential to foster internal understanding and prepare for external scrutiny. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and data science is expected, with a focus on selectively applying new techniques that demonstrably improve KnoxAI's effectiveness.
  • • While remaining hands-on, you will also play a role in establishing repeatable, scalable AI development practices as Knox continues to grow. This involves fostering a culture of best practices and ensuring our AI development processes are robust and efficient. Your ability to reason across data, models, infrastructure, security, and user needs will be key to building durable and maintainable AI solutions. We are looking for an individual who can operate independently, take full ownership of their work, and drive complex initiatives forward in a fast-paced, high-accountability setting. Strong communication skills are essential, enabling you to clearly articulate complex AI concepts and their associated tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Strong foundation in data science, machine learning, and applied AI, with demonstrated experience building and operating models used in real production systems.
  • • Advanced proficiency in Python and modern ML/AI frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn), with the ability to move comfortably between experimentation and production code.
  • • Working proficiency in Node.js and/or Bun.js, with experience integrating AI/ML systems into production application backends and services.
  • • Hands-on experience with data-centric AI practices, including dataset design, curation, labeling strategies, versioning, and managing data quality over time.
  • • Proven ability to train, fine-tune, and evaluate models using rigorous validation approaches, with a clear understanding of tradeoffs between accuracy, precision, recall, and operational risk.
  • • Experience designing and applying custom evaluation metrics aligned to real-world outcomes, including managing false positives and false negatives in high-stakes systems.
  • • Experience operationalizing AI models in production environments, including deployment, monitoring, performance tracking, drift detection, retraining workflows, and rollback strategies.
  • • Familiarity with MLOps practices and tooling, including model versioning, CI/CD for ML, and lifecycle management.
  • • Ability to design explainable and auditable AI systems, with experience documenting model behavior, assumptions, limitations, and decision logic for internal and external stakeholders.
  • • Strong systems-level thinking, with the ability to reason across data, models, infrastructure, security, and users to build durable, maintainable AI solutions.
  • • Proven ability to operate independently, take ownership, and drive complex work forward in fast-moving, high-accountability environments.
  • • Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex AI concepts and tradeoffs to non-technical audiences.
  • • U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of our work with federal government clients and compliance with applicable regulations.
  • • Bonus/Preferred Experience:
  • • Working with Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), or applied AI systems.
  • • Operating in regulated, security-sensitive, or compliance-driven environments.
  • • Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and secure system architectures.
  • • Background in government, federal contracting, cybersecurity, or compliance-adjacent domains.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive salary range: $180k - $200k.
  • • Comprehensive health benefits package including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
  • • Life and Disability insurance coverage.
  • • Unlimited Paid Time Off (PEO).
  • • Employee-funded 401k plan.
  • • Opportunity to work on high-impact, purpose-driven projects supporting critical U.S. government missions.
  • • Collaborative and inclusive work environment that values diversity and innovation.
  • • Professional development opportunities to stay current with AI advancements.
