• • As an Analytics Engineer at Coinbase, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of economic freedom by building and maintaining robust data infrastructure, with a specific focus on empowering regulatory compliance across our international operations.
• • Your primary mission will be to architect and implement a reliable, automated, and self-serve data foundation for regulatory reporting, addressing the escalating volume and complexity of global financial regulations.
• • You will dive deep into the intricacies of the regulatory data landscape, translating complex requirements into well-defined data models and automated workflows.
• • A key aspect of this role involves enabling compliance stakeholders to independently access and analyze regulatory data, moving away from manual, ad-hoc reporting towards a scalable, efficient platform.
• • You will be instrumental in evolving Coinbase's data stack towards an AI-agent-driven model, where you will define specifications, guide AI in generating data models, and oversee agents in performing analytics on clean, well-structured data domains.
• • You will be responsible for building and maintaining the Regulatory Data Mart, serving as the definitive source of truth for all regulatory reporting needs across Coinbase's diverse international entities, meticulously handling the nuances of multi-entity and multi-jurisdiction reporting.
• • Your work will directly contribute to ensuring Coinbase meets its regulatory reporting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and maintains compliance in all operational markets.
• • You will own the end-to-end data quality lifecycle, implementing rigorous data contracts, validation checks, and continuous monitoring to guarantee the accuracy and integrity of regulatory data.
• • You will design and construct sophisticated data models that form the bedrock of regulatory reporting, ensuring they capture the required entity-level granularity and precise definitions mandated by regulators.
• • The role requires you to build and maintain comprehensive data quality checks, implement robust monitoring systems, and establish data contracts, including reconciliation processes against previous submissions.
• • You will author clear specifications and definitions that AI tools will leverage to generate data pipelines and accurately answer complex regulatory queries.
• • A significant part of your contribution will involve standardizing regulatory metric definitions, accounting for entity-specific variations, and formalizing historical reporting decisions into durable, machine-readable formats.
• • You will collaborate closely with Compliance, Legal, and Business Operations teams to translate regulatory mandates into effective data models, and partner with upstream Engineering teams to ensure the accuracy and proper contracting of source data.
• • You will drive the strategic shift from managing reactive regulatory data requests to proactively building automated, self-serve solutions that progressively minimize manual intervention and operational overhead.
• • Maintaining clear, structured documentation of business logic, specifically optimized for AI agent consumption, will be crucial to ensure agents can reliably trace and query regulatory data throughout its lifecycle.
• • You will embody a systems-thinking approach, identifying and addressing root causes to eliminate manual processes and build sustainable solutions.
• • You will leverage AI as a primary collaborator, breaking down complex problems, delegating execution to agents, and focusing human judgment on critical decision points.
• • You will design data, metadata, and documentation to enable AI agents to reason over information without human translation, developing a keen sense for distinguishing correct AI output from merely convincing results.
• • You will demonstrate a capacity for rapid learning in unfamiliar domains, quickly acquiring knowledge from colleagues, documentation, and data, and transforming tribal knowledge into enduring infrastructure.
• • You will understand that building the optimal platform involves performing work manually first to discern patterns worthy of automation.
• • You will prioritize accuracy above all else, implementing data contracts, validation frameworks, and quality checks to build trust through rigor, especially in an environment where AI generates pipelines.
• • You will possess strong foundational skills in analytics engineering, including advanced SQL, Python, data modeling techniques (star/snowflake, OBTs, SCDs), pipeline development (dbt, Airflow), and modern data warehouse architectures (Snowflake, Databricks).
• • You will operate with a high degree of independence, proactively identifying needs and driving initiatives forward without constant supervision.
