• We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Android Engineer to spearhead the development of Hook's Android application from its inception. This pivotal role involves translating our successful iOS experience into a native, high-performance, and thoughtfully crafted Android application. As a key member of our early-stage team, you will be instrumental in shaping the Android presence of Hook, ensuring it resonates with the platform's core values of innovation, user engagement, and creative freedom.
• This is a high-impact, '0 to 1' opportunity where you will have significant autonomy and influence. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, backend engineers, AI specialists, and iOS engineers. Your contributions will be crucial in defining the application's architecture, driving rapid development cycles, and iterating towards product-market fit for our Android user base. We are looking for an individual who possesses a profound dedication to technical craftsmanship, exceptional performance optimization, and a keen understanding of user experience, particularly within the dynamic context of media-rich social environments.
• Your responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end lifecycle of the Android application. This includes architecting, building, and maintaining the core functionality of Hook's Android app, leveraging modern Android development frameworks and best practices. You will be tasked with translating complex product and design requirements into robust, scalable, and high-quality code, ensuring a seamless and engaging user experience.
• A significant focus of your role will be on ensuring optimal app performance, particularly across critical areas such as media playback, intricate creation workflows, and the dynamic social feeds that form the backbone of our platform. You will work in close partnership with backend engineers to meticulously define clean, efficient, and well-documented API contracts, fostering a collaborative and productive development environment.
• You will actively participate in cross-functional discussions with product and design teams to refine user experience (UX) strategies, ensuring that the Android app not only meets but exceeds user expectations. This iterative process will involve shipping features quickly and gathering user feedback to drive continuous improvement.
• As a foundational member of the Android engineering team, you will play a key role in establishing and championing Android engineering best practices, architectural patterns, and stringent code standards. This includes setting up robust testing methodologies, code review processes, and documentation standards to ensure long-term maintainability and scalability.
• You will be responsible for monitoring key performance indicators, stability metrics, and crash reports, proactively identifying and addressing issues to continuously enhance the overall quality and reliability of the application. Your insights will be invaluable in contributing to critical technical decisions regarding the app's architecture, the selection of development tooling, and the management of release processes.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of professional Android development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android development practices (e.g., Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow).
• Proven experience architecting, building, and successfully shipping production-ready Android applications.
• Deep understanding of the Android app lifecycle, performance optimization techniques, and debugging methodologies.
• Experience integrating with RESTful APIs and collaborating effectively with backend engineering teams.
• Strong product sense and a meticulous attention to UI/UX detail.
• Demonstrated ability to operate independently and thrive in fast-paced, early-stage startup environments.
