📋 Description

• Lead the development and maintenance of Eight Sleep’s Android mobile application, which serves as the primary interface for customers to control and monitor the Pod sleep technology.
• Design, build, and ship pixel-perfect, high-performance native Android features using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, and MVVM/MVI architectural patterns.
• Own end-to-end delivery of complex features—from requirements gathering and architecture design to implementation, testing, and deployment—with a focus on stability, scalability, and user experience.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers, firmware teams, machine learning engineers, hardware R&D, growth, and executive leadership to align mobile functionality with product vision and technical constraints.
• Conduct thorough code reviews to enforce engineering standards, improve code quality, and mentor junior engineers in best practices for Android development.
• Optimize app performance, reduce latency, and enhance battery efficiency to ensure seamless interaction with the Pod’s hardware components and real-time sensor data.
• Build and maintain scalable, testable enterprise-grade applications with robust unit and integration testing frameworks to support rapid iteration in a hyper-growth startup environment.
• Work closely with product and design teams to implement beautiful, animated UI components that reflect Eight Sleep’s commitment to design excellence and user-centric innovation.
• Translate health and wellness data from hardware peripherals into intuitive, actionable insights presented within the mobile app to improve user sleep outcomes.
• Iterate quickly on feedback from hundreds of thousands of global users while maintaining strict quality benchmarks and adherence to regulatory standards for health-related applications.
• Champion a culture of technical excellence by advocating for clean architecture, performance monitoring, and reliable error handling across the mobile codebase.
• Actively participate in cross-functional sprint planning, retrospectives, and roadmap prioritization to ensure mobile initiatives directly support company-wide objectives.
• Stay current with Android ecosystem advancements and proactively recommend adoption of new libraries, tools, and methodologies that enhance development efficiency or user experience.
• Ensure all mobile features comply with privacy and data security best practices for health-related consumer products.
• Participate in on-call rotations to monitor app health, address critical incidents, and resolve user-reported issues in real time.
• Maintain documentation for technical decisions, API integrations, and system workflows to support team knowledge sharing and onboarding.
• Represent the mobile engineering team in cross-departmental initiatives, including product launches, customer support escalations, and hardware-software integration testing.
• Directly contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools to accelerate release cycles without compromising quality.

🎯 Requirements

• 6+ years of shipping high-quality features for native Android apps
• Fluent proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, Flow, and MVVM/MVI
• Experience building scalable, testable enterprise-grade Android applications
• Ability to work efficiently in a rapid-paced environment while maintaining a focus on stability
