Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • As the lead Android Engineer at Rain Technologies, Inc., you will be instrumental in shaping the future of global payments by owning the development of our next-generation mobile payment experiences. This role is pivotal in bringing innovative financial solutions to life, directly impacting how users interact with our cutting-edge platform. You will be the primary architect and builder of our Android application, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and user-friendly, thereby empowering fintechs, neobanks, and institutions to offer seamless and efficient payment services worldwide. Your work will be at the forefront of a hypergrowth company backed by top-tier investors, offering a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a dynamic and rapidly evolving industry.
  • In this critical role, you will take full ownership of the Android development lifecycle. This begins with conceptualizing and architecting a clean, scalable codebase that will serve as the foundation for future growth and team expansion. You will be responsible for the end-to-end implementation of polished, production-grade mobile applications that seamlessly integrate with Rain's powerful issuance platform and APIs. This includes developing features for card issuance, managing transactions, querying balances, and facilitating other essential payment flows. A key aspect of your day-to-day will involve collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to define the mobile product roadmap. You will translate complex platform capabilities into intuitive, native Android user experiences that delight end-users. Furthermore, you will implement robust security measures, including secure authentication, tokenization, and data handling protocols, which are paramount in the financial services sector. You will also drive critical decisions regarding the mobile technology stack, including tooling, frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and comprehensive testing strategies, ensuring the highest standards of quality and efficiency. As an early member of the engineering team, you will actively contribute to shaping our broader engineering culture, influencing best practices and development methodologies.
  • You will be joining a lean and mighty team of passionate builders and veteran founders at Rain Technologies, a company dedicated to making the next generation of payments possible globally. We are building the infrastructure that enables stablecoins for real-world use, powering a diverse range of transactions from card payments to cross-border remittances. Our ethos is built on an open and flat structure, where team members at all levels are encouraged to grow into roles that align with their aspirations. We foster an environment where individuals have the freedom to explore innovative ideas and significantly influence the company's roadmap and vision. You will work alongside the lead iOS developer, forming the core of our mobile engineering efforts. This collaborative partnership will be essential as you collectively build out the mobile presence from the ground up, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality experience across platforms. You will work directly with product, design, and our platform engineering team to define what exceptional mobile experiences look like for Rain's diverse clientele and their end customers.
  • This role offers an unparalleled opportunity for professional growth and learning. You will gain deep expertise in modern Android development, including advanced concepts like Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and dependency injection frameworks like Hilt/Dagger. You will have the chance to architect and build a mobile application from its inception, making foundational decisions that will shape its long-term success. By integrating with Rain's sophisticated APIs, you will develop a nuanced understanding of the payments ecosystem, including card issuance, transaction management, and secure financial data handling. You will also hone your skills in driving technical strategy, from selecting appropriate tooling and frameworks to establishing robust CI/CD and testing methodologies. As an early and lead engineer, you will have outsized influence on the company's technical direction and engineering culture, providing a unique platform to develop leadership and strategic thinking skills. Successfully navigating the challenges of building a critical mobile product in a hypergrowth fintech startup will equip you with invaluable experience for future career advancements in the rapidly evolving world of digital finance.

  • Experience architecting Android apps from scratch, including foundational decisions on project structure, navigation patterns, state management, and dependency injection
  • Solid understanding of networking layers, RESTful API integration, and secure data handling
  • Strong product sensibility and excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical tradeoffs for non-technical stakeholders
