Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join the team that is redefining how the world builds intelligent machines. As an Application Software Engineer at Applied Intuition, you will be the critical bridge between our cutting-edge autonomy stack and the real-world programs of the largest automotive OEMs, defense primes, and industrial vehicle manufacturers on the planet. Your code will ship in millions of vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, next-gen defense platforms, and off-road machines that operate in the harshest environments on Earth.
  • • Own the full lifecycle of customer-facing software that brings our Vehicle OS and autonomy tool-chain to life. You will design, build, and harden the application layers that translate raw sensor data into actionable intelligence, configure perception pipelines for new vehicle programs in days—not months—and expose APIs that allow customers to integrate their own IP without ever touching safety-critical code.
  • • Architect scalable, cloud-native services that ingest terabytes of drive data per day, run massive simulation sweeps across thousands of EC2 instances, and deliver real-time analytics that let safety engineers spot edge cases before they happen in the field. Your systems will reduce regression testing from weeks to hours and save customers millions of dollars in prototype builds.
  • • Collaborate daily with field engineers stationed at customer sites in Detroit, Stuttgart, Seoul, and Tokyo to translate complex requirements into elegant software solutions. You will whiteboard new features at 8 a.m. PST, push tested code by noon, and watch it validated on a test track in Sweden by close of business.
  • • Build the developer experience that makes external teams productive on day one: SDKs, CLI tools, VS Code extensions, and self-service portals that abstract away the complexity of ISO 26262, MISRA, and DO-178C compliance. Your work enables a Tier-1 supplier to spin up a new ADAS program in under an hour.
  • • Instrument everything. You will embed telemetry, tracing, and profiling hooks so that when a logging truck in northern Canada or an autonomous convoy in the Mojave Desert reports an anomaly, your dashboards reveal root cause within minutes. Reliability is measured in nine-sines, and you treat every crash as a learning opportunity.
  • • Champion a culture of rigorous code review, automated testing, and continuous delivery. You will write unit tests that run in milliseconds, integration tests that spin up entire virtual fleets, and chaos tests that prove the system degrades gracefully when GPS drops out or LiDAR is blinded by dust.
  • • Influence product direction by distilling customer pain points into crisp technical specs. Whether it is enabling over-the-air calibration for a new EV platform or adding support for RTK base stations on a military proving ground, your voice in sprint planning turns vague wishes into sprint-ready stories.
  • • Mentor junior engineers through pair programming, design reviews, and lunch-and-learn sessions. You will help them navigate the nuances of safety-critical C++, deterministic middleware, and the subtle art of writing requirements that are both testable and customer-friendly.
  • • Stay on the bleeding edge without bleeding customers. You will evaluate new open-source frameworks, cloud services, and hardware accelerators, running bake-offs that balance performance, cost, and long-term maintainability. When a new GPU architecture drops, you will know exactly how it impacts our SLAM pipeline before the press release hits.
  • • Travel up to 20% to customer sites, trade shows, and our global offices. One week you might be in Ann Arbor debugging CAN bus traffic on a mule vehicle, the next week presenting a tech talk in Tokyo on deterministic record-replay for simulation. Your passport is as important as your laptop.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 3+ years shipping production C++ or modern Python in performance-critical, multi-threaded systems
  • • Proven experience with cloud-native development—Docker, Kubernetes, gRPC, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or Pulumi)
  • • Strong grasp of networking, serialization, and distributed systems concepts; able to reason about latency, jitter, and fault tolerance under load
  • • Nice-to-have: hands-on exposure to automotive or robotics middleware (ROS 2, DDS, SOME/IP, or AUTOSAR Adaptive)
  • • Nice-to-have: familiarity with functional safety standards (ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or DO-178C) and the mindset to write traceable, testable code

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive salary plus meaningful equity in a late-stage, hyper-growth company valued at $3.6B
  • • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly off-sites in destinations like Napa Valley, Kyoto, and the Dolomites
  • • Annual $5,000 professional development stipend—conferences, courses, or that GPU you have always wanted
  • • Platinum-tier health, dental, and vision coverage for you and 100% subsidized for dependents
  • • 20 days PTO, 12 company holidays, and a four-week paid sabbatical after four years
