Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As an Applied AI & Optimization Engineer at Firestorm, you will own the algorithms and systems behind the intelligence layer of their manufacturing platform, directly enabling faster, smarter, and more reliable production of next-generation uncrewed aircraft through advanced optimization and AI.
- • Day to day, you will design and implement optimization algorithms for work order scheduling and resource allocation, build analytics layers for defect trends and yield modeling, lead the integration of open-source and custom LLMs into an AI assistant for cloud, air-gapped, and edge environments, and productionize these systems in collaboration with full-stack and infrastructure engineers.
- • You will partner closely with domain experts in manufacturing engineering, quality, and planning to ensure models reflect real-world operational constraints, while evaluating build-vs-buy decisions for optimization tools and ML infrastructure.
- • The Software Integration & Operations department at Firestorm builds the software layer connecting factory floor to cloud, supporting rapid iteration, automation, and scalable production with uncompromising quality — and you will play a key role in advancing its intelligence layer from planning workbench to AI-driven decision support.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in applied optimization, ML systems engineering, and domain-specific AI applications, while contributing to mission-critical systems in aerospace and defense, with opportunities to shape the future of autonomous manufacturing.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations
- • 5+ years of engineering experience with substantial applied optimization, operations research, or ML systems work
- • Deep proficiency in Python; fluency with at least one optimization framework (e.g., MILP solvers, OR-Tools, constraint solvers)
- • Track record of productionizing algorithmic systems — shipping optimization or ML into real users’ hands, not just research
- • Strong applied math foundation in combinatorial optimization, heuristics, or statistical modeling relevant to scheduling and resource allocation
🏖️ Benefits
- • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans
- • 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan
- • Equity grants for new hires
- • Unlimited PTO
- • Extremely generous company holiday calendar, including a holiday hiatus in November and December
- • Generous Parental Leave
- • Lifestyle Spending Account
- • FSA, DCFSA, HSA
- • Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness, and Accident insurance
- • Basic Life/AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance (100% covered)
- • Mental Health Resources: free 24/7 therapy and additional work-life services (legal, financial support)
