- • As an AI Tutor - Applied Math Specialist at xAI Corporation, you will directly contribute to the mission of creating AI systems that understand the universe by providing high-quality mathematical inputs, labels, and annotations that train and refine cutting-edge AI models. Your expertise in applied mathematics will be instrumental in shaping how AI reasons through complex, real-world problems, making this role pivotal to advancing both AI capabilities and human knowledge.
- • Day to day, you will use proprietary software to label and curate datasets for AI training, select and create challenging applied math problems from domains such as probability, statistics, numerical analysis, optimization, operations research, dynamical systems, and data modeling, and provide detailed solutions to evaluate and improve model responses. You will collaborate closely with technical staff to refine annotation tools, interpret task instructions accurately, and ensure the delivery of high-quality curated data that supports the development of new AI capabilities.
- • You will work within a small, highly motivated, and flat-organizational team at xAI where initiative, hands-on contribution, and engineering excellence are valued. The company fosters a culture of curiosity and direct impact, where leadership emerges from consistent performance and all employees are expected to communicate knowledge clearly and prioritize effectively to advance the mission of understanding the universe through AI.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in applying mathematical concepts to AI training scenarios, gain experience in human-AI interaction design, and contribute to meaningful advancements in model performance. You will develop skills in data curation, annotation tool feedback, and cross-functional collaboration with engineers and researchers, positioning you at the forefront of AI development while applying your advanced mathematical training in a real-world, innovative context.
🎯 Requirements
- • Must have either a Master’s or PhD in Mathematics with a specialization in applied mathematics, or a medal in an International Math Olympiad (IMO) or equivalent-level math competition.
- • Proficiency in reading and writing in both informal and professional English, with strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational abilities.
- • Strong ability to navigate information resources and databases, combined with solid reading comprehension and the capacity to exercise autonomous judgment when working with limited data or materials.
- • A strong passion for technological advancement and innovation, along with a commitment to contributing to xAI’s mission through hands-on, detail-oriented work.
