- • The Associate Director of Outpatient Medical Coding oversees the timely and accurate coding of all facility outpatient visits and audits for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, ensuring compliance, financial accuracy, and revenue optimization through expert-level leadership in coding operations.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include managing denials, claim edits, and charge capture; supervising outpatient coding staff including Medical Record Coding Specialists, Failed Claims Specialists, and Charge Capture Specialists; conducting audits for OCE, NCCI, and MCE compliance; developing policies and procedures; allocating work assignments; and collaborating with revenue cycle leaders, clinical staff, and external vendors to improve coding accuracy.
- • The role is part of Health System Shared Services within the MIM CDI and Coding department at Ohio State University, a leading academic medical center committed to excellence in patient care, research, and education, where the position supports organizational goals through strategic oversight of outpatient coding operations.
- • The incumbent will develop leadership expertise in healthcare revenue cycle management, gain advanced experience in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCC, and SDOH coding, drive process improvements, mentor staff, and contribute to organizational financial and compliance success through data-driven decision-making and cross-functional collaboration.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in health information administration or equivalent
- • Minimum 3 years of medical coding and/or revenue management experience
- • Preferred certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS (AHIMA), or COC (outpatient credential)
