Associate General Counsel — Litigation

📋 Description

• • Serve as first-chair litigator for Corgi Insurance Services, Inc. in Delaware courts, handling all aspects of litigation including pleadings, motions, depositions, hearings, and trial.
• • Lead strategy and oversight for all East Coast commercial litigation matters outside Delaware, coordinating with local counsel and appearing pro hac vice as needed.
• • Select, manage, and hold accountable outside litigation counsel—setting case strategy, approving budgets, and controlling legal spend without rubber-stamping invoices.
• • Build Corgi’s litigation function from the ground up by establishing protocols for early case assessment, settlement posture, litigation readiness, and dispute resolution.
• • Partner directly with company leadership to identify and mitigate legal risks before they escalate into formal disputes, ensuring litigation aligns with business objectives.
• • Defend and prosecute Corgi’s own commercial disputes, including contract, partnership, vendor, employment, and intellectual property matters—this role does not involve insurance-coverage or claims litigation.
• • Own end-to-end litigation outcomes on the East Coast, with full autonomy to shape how Corgi approaches disputes as the company scales.
• • Establish Corgi’s litigation playbook as the first dedicated litigation counsel, defining standards for case evaluation, external counsel engagement, and litigation strategy.
• • Operate with founder-level ownership: proactively identify needs, drive initiatives without direction, and build systems that scale with the company’s growth.
• • Function as the sole litigation lead for the East Coast, with no existing team to inherit—this is a builder role, not a caretaker role.
• • Engage directly with executive leadership to ensure legal strategy supports company-wide goals, not just compliance or risk avoidance.
• • Maintain active, in-good-standing admission to the Delaware Bar as a non-negotiable requirement to first-chair matters in Delaware courts.
• • Manage litigation across multiple jurisdictions on the East Coast, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, and New York, with flexibility to travel as needed.
• • Balance hands-on courtroom advocacy with strategic oversight of external firms, ensuring efficiency, cost control, and alignment with company priorities.
• • Drive early resolution of disputes where appropriate, but be prepared to litigate aggressively when necessary to protect Corgi’s interests.
• • Contribute to shaping the legal infrastructure of a next-generation AI-driven insurance carrier, with the opportunity to set precedent before industry norms are established.
