📋 Description

• As Associate General Counsel (Product and Research) at Deepgram, you will serve as the go-to legal advisor for data and research teams on novel legal questions in model development, helping design frameworks that enable research to move fast with confidence while partnering with product teams to ship user-delighting features.
• You will draft and review consumer-facing terms, policies, disclosures, and marketing materials written for customers, not lawyers, and continue building out Deepgram’s privacy program to deepen customer trust in its voice AI products.
• You will join a lean, high-impact legal team as the third lawyer, reporting directly to the General Counsel, and help establish a scalable AI-native legal function that uses AI as a default mode of working to set the standard for responsible AI development.
• You will stay ahead of evolving international AI legal frameworks, translate developments into actionable principles and policies, and help Deepgram develop a clear point of view on responsible AI development while advancing how the company and broader field thinks about AI’s legal questions.
• You will thrive in an AI-first environment where experimenting with and integrating advanced AI tools into daily work is expected, and where rapid change requires adaptability, comfort with ambiguity, and a builder’s mindset.
• You will work alongside cutting-edge researchers and engineers at a company powering voice AI for over 200,000 developers and 1,300+ organizations, including Twilio, Cloudflare, and Jack in the Box, backed by over $215M in funding from investors like NVIDIA and Tiger Global.
• You will have the opportunity to shape the legal foundation of voice AI from first principles, turning novel legal questions into scalable frameworks that support Deepgram’s mission as the trusted leader in voice AI.

🎯 Requirements

• JD from a U.S. accredited law school and 7–15 years of legal practice experience (in-house, at a firm, or both)
• Demonstrated experience counseling product, research, or engineering teams on legal questions arising in AI development and deployment
• Fluency in privacy, IP, data licensing, consumer protection, and international AI regulatory landscape, with depth in some areas and eagerness to learn the rest
• Comfort operating in grey areas of law while delivering clear, actionable advice
• Exceptional writing skills — precise, plain, and compelling
• AI-native legal practice: workflows built into daily work, not just tool usage
