Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Be the heartbeat of Barkbus for 300+ Pet Stylists. You are the first friendly face our groomers turn to when they need help with benefits, leave, injuries, or just someone who truly listens. Every interaction is an opportunity to reinforce our culture of empathy, speed, and high standards.
- • Own end-to-end execution of core People programs—benefits enrollment, FMLA and state leaves, ADA accommodations, workers’ comp claims, and injury reporting—while ensuring 100 % accuracy, compliance with federal and multi-state labor laws, and a seamless experience for hourly employees who are often on the road.
- • Serve as the day-to-day, high-touch resource for non-exempt groomers across 14 states. Whether it’s a quick Slack message about PTO balances, a sensitive conversation about performance, or a complex leave case, you respond with clarity, warmth, and the operational rigor that keeps the business moving.
- • Track, triage, and document employee relations matters in our HRIS and ticketing system. You maintain meticulous records, conduct root-cause analyses, and partner with the Manager, People Business Partner to spot trends—turning one-off questions into scalable policy or training improvements.
- • Coach and prepare frontline managers for difficult conversations—attendance, safety incidents, or developmental feedback—by providing scripts, documentation templates, and real-time guidance. Your goal: consistent, fair outcomes that protect both the employee experience and Barkbus values.
- • Act as the critical bridge between Operations, Safety, Payroll, and the People team. You translate field realities into People priorities and vice versa, ensuring policies are practical for mobile groomers who juggle tight schedules, van logistics, and beloved client pets.
- • Champion engagement and retention initiatives tailored to an hourly workforce: pulse surveys, recognition programs, wellness challenges, and “voice of the groomer” roundtables. You turn insights into action plans that reduce regrettable turnover and keep our culture thriving at scale.
- • Continuously improve the groomer experience by identifying friction points—confusing benefits documents, unclear call-out procedures, delayed workers’ comp responses—and designing simple, mobile-friendly solutions that save time and reduce stress for employees on the go.
- • Communicate in plain language, Spanish-language resources where possible, and empathetic tone that resonates with a diverse, frontline population. You are equally comfortable presenting to executives as you are texting a groomer between appointments.
- • Live and model Barkbus values: Move with velocity, Collaborate like owners, Deliver joy to pets and their people. Your work directly impacts our ability to scale from 300 to 3,000 groomers while preserving the soul of the company.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2–4 years of hands-on HR generalist or business partner experience supporting hourly, distributed, or frontline teams
- • Demonstrated fluency with federal and multi-state employment law (FMLA, ADA, workers’ comp, wage & hour)
- • Proven track record of owning benefits administration, leave management, and employee relations casework from intake to resolution
- • High proficiency in HRIS and ticketing systems (e.g., Rippling, BambooHR, Zendesk) with meticulous attention to data integrity
- • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred to serve our diverse groomer population
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive base salary plus annual performance bonus tied to groomer satisfaction and retention metrics
- • 100 % employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and 75 % for dependents
- • Flexible PTO policy that actually encourages time off—because recharged groomers give better belly rubs
- • Monthly mobile stipend and Barkbus van ride-along days so you stay connected to the field experience
- • Professional development budget ($1,500/year) for SHRM certifications, language courses, or conferences
