Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • As an Associate Technical Director at Active Theory LLC, you will own the technical delivery of cutting-edge interactive web experiences for high-profile global clients, blending deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to ensure projects meet the studio’s exacting standards for performance, quality, and craft while serving as a trusted client partner.
  • • You will lead end-to-end project delivery from discovery to launch, managing concurrent projects by defining technical approaches, risks, estimates, and resourcing; coordinating developer teams through planning, delegation, and unblocking; facilitating dev reviews and WIP sessions; and maintaining technical standards across client accounts to ensure consistency and excellence in every build.
  • • You will serve as the primary day-to-day technical partner for clients, proactively communicating with client teams, supporting producers on technical and build questions, presenting builds and technical direction to stakeholders, and evaluating incoming projects with New Business on feasibility, scoping, and required skills to align technical execution with client vision.
  • • You will develop and maintain web platforms using JavaScript, Vue, Node.js, and studio-standard technologies, including gaining deep expertise in Hydra (Active Theory’s internal framework), working with GCP, AWS, APIs, and third-party integrations, and ensuring quality across performance, analytics, SEO, security, and accessibility (WCAG) while producing clear technical documentation and exploring AI tools to enhance craft and efficiency.
  • • You will manage 2–3 direct reports through regular 1:1s, performance feedback, and development plans; mentor developers by modeling smooth delivery, client partnership, and technical presentation; and cultivate a positive, productive team culture by introducing and stewarding developer initiatives that strengthen collaboration and technical excellence across the studio.
  • • You will work within a highly collaborative, deeply creative, and distributed team at Active Theory, a creative studio focused on design, technology, and storytelling that builds digital experiences for global brands, reporting to the CTO and working closely with Creative, Production, and Clients teams in a full-time role requiring availability for US-based calls until 12 PST, with preference for Pacific or Eastern time zones and consideration for EU time zone candidates.
  • • In this role, you will grow as a technical leader by shaping how the studio builds complex web experiences, advancing your expertise in modern web architectures and client-facing technical strategy, and contributing to the evolution of internal frameworks and best practices that elevate the studio’s reputation for innovation and craft.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Proven experience leading technical delivery of complex interactive web experiences, including end-to-end project management, technical discovery, and coordination of developer teams.
  • • Strong proficiency in JavaScript, Vue.js, and Node.js, with hands-on experience building and maintaining scalable web platforms using modern frontend and backend technologies.
  • • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with clients, including presenting technical progress, translating business needs into technical solutions, and maintaining alignment on quality, timelines, and expectations.
  • • Experience working with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS), APIs, and third-party integrations, with a solid understanding of performance optimization, security, SEO, and accessibility (WCAG) standards.
  • • Background in mentoring or managing developers, including conducting 1:1s, providing performance feedback, and fostering professional growth and team culture.
  • • Familiarity with internal frameworks or design systems (experience with Hydra is a plus) and a commitment to producing clear technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and information architecture.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Opportunity to work on high-profile, innovative digital experiences for global brands at a creative studio known for pushing the boundaries of design, technology, and storytelling.
  • • Fully remote position with flexibility to work from Pacific, Eastern, or EU time zones, supporting a distributed team culture while requiring overlap for US-based calls until 12 PST.
  • • Leadership and mentorship responsibilities that allow you to grow as a technical director while shaping team development, culture, and technical standards across the studio.
  • • Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies, including Active Theory’s internal Hydra framework, GCP, AWS, and AI-enhanced workflows, to expand your technical expertise.
  • • Collaborative, creative environment where technical excellence is valued alongside storytelling and design, with close collaboration across Creative, Production, and Client teams.
  • • Professional growth through ownership of end-to-end project delivery, client partnership, and influence on how the studio builds and innovates at scale.
