- • Oversee day-to-day operations at NPR’s broadcast facilities in Washington, D.C., managing a team of audio engineers and allocating resources to support content creation across radio, audio/video podcasts, and video streaming.
- • Provide 24x7 immediate response to technology outages and staffing emergencies, rotate on-call duties during nights, weekends, and holidays, and ensure high-quality standards for audio production.
- • Collaborate with geographically distributed teams in New York and Los Angeles, sharing on-call and backfill duties while contributing to workflow development, training, and enforcement across departments and locations.
- • Lead hiring searches, supervise at least 12 direct reports, conduct performance reviews, and make recommendations on hiring, promotion, and discipline while fostering an inclusive workplace aligned with NPR’s mission and ethical standards.
- • Advise teams on audio processing, mixing, and recording technologies, maintain documentation for critical systems, test disaster recovery systems, and ensure compliance with the NABET union collective bargaining agreement.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional production, audio, and/or broadcast experience
- • 3+ years of supervisory experience or team leadership
- • Thorough understanding of audio engineering concepts, principles, tools, and workflows
- • Ability to work independently, multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a 24x7 deadline-driven environment
- • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, documentation creation)
- • Knowledge of broadcast systems and automation, audio/video routers, and production workflows
