📋 Description

• Develop and maintain backend systems for Frontu’s Field Service Management software, a part of Everfield’s SaaS ecosystem, using PHP in a production environment with 2+ years of real-world experience.
• Write and maintain comprehensive tests using PHPUnit, Behat, or similar frameworks, ensuring code reliability without prompting, driven by personal accountability for quality.
• Navigate and modify complex, existing codebases by reading and tracing application flows before making changes, avoiding unintended side effects in unfamiliar bundles or modules.
• Optimize database performance by interpreting slow query plans, identifying N+1 issues, and making informed decisions between indexing and denormalization strategies.
• Practice disciplined Git workflows: commit small, write clear messages, provide useful PR descriptions, and rebase before requesting reviews.
• Communicate professionally in written English across tickets, PRs, documentation, and Slack, as most collaboration occurs asynchronously in text.
• Integrate and utilize AI tooling daily (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) to enhance productivity, but always verify and review AI-generated code before merging.
• Design and maintain REST APIs for mobile and partner integrations, including endpoint design, versioning, authentication, and pagination.
• Work with Linux environments: SSH into servers, tail logs, locate processes, and restart services without assistance.
• Leverage Doctrine ORM or similar mature ORMs, understanding the performance implications of lazy loading and eager fetching.
• Collaborate on frontend improvements using Twig, vanilla JS, or jQuery, with willingness to learn React as the team migrates to React islands.
• Participate in a paid trial week involving real code contributions, PR reviews, and team feedback to demonstrate fit and capability.
• Contribute to system scalability and reliability by applying AWS basics (EC2, ASG, RDS) where applicable.
• Build and refine AI-powered agents or workflows using MCP, LLM tool-use, or RAG techniques if experienced, and share outcomes with the team.
• Maintain code quality by rejecting untested code labeled as "pragmatic" and refusing to work exclusively on greenfield projects.
• Engage in continuous learning through company-sponsored development opportunities and exposure to modern tooling and methodologies.
• Participate in company culture initiatives including remote-first work, summer trips, workations, and internal merch programs.
• Deliver impact through ownership of legacy systems, focusing on incremental improvements, stability, and long-term maintainability over flashy new builds.

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years of PHP in a real production codebase
• SQL fluency: ability to read query plans, spot N+1 issues, and choose between indexing and denormalization
• Proven habit of writing tests independently, without prompting, using PHPUnit, Behat, or similar
• Git discipline: small commits, clear messages, PR hygiene, and rebasing before review
• Professional written English for asynchronous communication via tickets, PRs, and Slack
• Daily use of AI tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) with verification of all generated code
