- • Architect and own the core backend services that power Ascertain’s AI-driven healthcare automation platform, ensuring every API endpoint, data pipeline, and microservice is secure, performant, and HIPAA-compliant.
- • Design and implement scalable Python/FastAPI services that ingest and fuse structured EHR data with unstructured clinical notes, powering real-time decision engines that cut prior-authorization turnaround from days to minutes.
- • Lead infrastructure-as-code initiatives using Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes on AWS, establishing repeatable, auditable environments that satisfy both engineering velocity and healthcare-grade security requirements.
- • Build and maintain resilient data layers on PostgreSQL and Redis, optimizing for high-throughput reads/writes while enforcing strict PHI encryption, audit logging, and retention policies.
- • Establish CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) that enable daily production releases with zero-downtime blue/green deployments and automated rollback on anomaly detection.
- • Partner with product managers, clinicians, and data scientists to translate complex clinical workflows into elegant backend abstractions, iterating rapidly based on user feedback from live health-system deployments.
- • Champion code quality through rigorous peer reviews, automated testing (>90 % coverage), and documentation that empowers new engineers to onboard in days, not weeks.
- • Instrument observability across services (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana) to surface latency, error budgets, and cost metrics, driving data-backed decisions on scaling and optimization.
- • Contribute to security architecture reviews, threat modeling, and SOC 2 readiness, embedding least-privilege IAM, secrets management, and encryption-at-rest into every layer of the stack.
- • Mentor junior engineers and shape engineering culture around blameless post-mortems, continuous learning, and customer obsession, ensuring Ascertain remains a place where mission and craft intersect.
- • Occasionally span the stack—whether tuning React front-end performance or debugging Kubernetes sidecars—to ensure end-to-end ownership of features that delight clinicians and reduce administrative burden.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of backend development experience in Python and FastAPI (or similar modern Python web frameworks).
- • Proven track record deploying and managing containerized services with Docker and Kubernetes in production.
- • Hands-on expertise with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and cloud-native CI/CD workflows.
- • Strong proficiency in relational databases (PostgreSQL) and caching layers (Redis), including schema design, query optimization, and data security best practices.
- • Nice-to-have: prior experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST) and familiarity with TypeScript for occasional full-stack contributions.
