- • Join 66Degrees as a Backend Engineer on a contract basis and become the architect of scalable, AI-driven cloud solutions that power Fortune 500 transformations. You will design and build the server-side logic that ingests terabytes of data, trains cutting-edge machine-learning models, and exposes high-throughput APIs that our data scientists and front-end teams rely on every day.
- • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of microservices written in Python, Go, or Java, deployed on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Cloud Run, GKE, and serverless functions. You will write clean, testable code, enforce rigorous CI/CD standards with Cloud Build and Terraform, and ensure every pull request meets strict latency, security, and cost-efficiency benchmarks.
- • Collaborate daily with cross-functional squads that include data engineers, MLOps specialists, and UX designers to translate complex business requirements into elegant backend designs. Expect white-board sessions where you’ll model domain entities, debate event-driven vs. RESTful patterns, and prototype new features that can be shipped to production within days, not weeks.
- • Optimize data pipelines that stream real-time events from Pub/Sub through Dataflow into BigQuery, reducing ETL latency by 40 % and cutting monthly compute spend by six figures for marquee clients. You will profile queries, rewrite them with partitioned tables and materialized views, and implement dynamic autoscaling policies that keep costs predictable even during Black-Friday-level traffic spikes.
- • Champion Site Reliability Engineering best practices: define SLIs/SLOs, instrument services with OpenTelemetry, and build automated canary deployments that detect anomalies before customers feel them. When incidents occur, you’ll lead blameless post-mortems and turn lessons learned into resilient runbooks and chaos-engineering experiments.
- • Contribute to internal libraries and tooling that accelerate delivery across all 66Degrees engagements. Whether it’s a reusable authentication middleware, a Terraform module for HIPAA-compliant infrastructure, or a custom Kubernetes operator, your code will be reused by dozens of engineers and cited in client architecture reviews.
- • Stay on the bleeding edge of cloud-native tech by evaluating new GCP products, attending internal guilds, and publishing concise tech briefs that help leadership decide when to adopt, pilot, or sunset emerging services. Recent explorations include AlloyDB for PostgreSQL compatibility at scale and Vertex AI Pipelines for MLOps standardization.
- • Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers through pair programming, architecture reviews, and lightning talks. Your guidance will shorten onboarding time for new contractors and raise the collective bar for code quality, testing coverage, and documentation across the organization.
- • Interface directly with client stakeholders—CTOs, product managers, and security officers—to present backend roadmaps, justify architectural trade-offs, and negotiate scope that balances speed, cost, and compliance. Your ability to translate technical nuance into business impact will influence multi-million-dollar decisions and long-term partnerships.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of backend engineering experience with at least 2 years on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS in production environments
- • Expert-level proficiency in one or more of Python, Go, or Java, including asynchronous programming, concurrency patterns, and performance tuning
- • Proven track record designing RESTful and/or gRPC microservices, including API versioning, authentication (OAuth2/JWT), and rate-limiting strategies
- • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi, and CI/CD pipelines using Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or similar
- • Nice-to-have: production exposure to BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, or other serverless data services, plus familiarity with Kubernetes and Helm
