📋 Description

• As a Backend Engineer on the Liquidity Platform team at Airwallex, you will design, build, and own critical backend systems that manage global funds efficiently, securely, and intelligently across the globe, ensuring money is in the right place at the right time for business operations and regulatory compliance.
• Day to day, you will develop scalable platforms for liquidity forecasting, cash positioning, internal fund movement, and investment workflows; build data pipelines and analytical capabilities; implement robust controls for reconciliation and auditability; collaborate with Product, Treasury, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, and Data teams; and participate in on-call rotations supported by strong observability and runbooks.
• The Liquidity Platform team powers Airwallex’s core infrastructure for liquidity management, safeguarding, investment, and cash data management—critical to supporting global operations, regulatory obligations, and capital efficiency as the company scales across 26 offices and serves over 200,000 businesses worldwide.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, financial infrastructure, and high-integrity backend engineering while contributing to one of the world’s most advanced liquidity management systems at a US$8 billion-valued fintech backed by Sequoia, Visa, Mastercard, and Salesforce Ventures, accelerating your career through ownership, collaboration, and mission-driven impact.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production
• Strong programming experience in one or more JVM languages (e.g. Kotlin, Java) or a comparable backend stack
• Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals: concurrency, data consistency, idempotency, retries, backoff, and failure modes in networked services
• Experience designing and working with REST and/or gRPC APIs, and persistence layers using relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and/or key-value stores
• Proficiency with event-driven architectures and message brokers/streams (e.g. Kafka or similar)
• Strong focus on testing and quality: unit, integration and contract tests; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Good grasp of observability: metrics, logging, tracing and alerting, and how to use them to debug production issues
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working with cross functional partners in a fast-paced environment
