Backend Engineer With Flight Experience (Remote)

📋 Description

• • Architect and own the backbone of Humoniq’s travel platform. You will design, build, and continuously evolve the backend services that aggregate fares, schedules, and inventory from GDS, NDC, and other travel APIs into a single, lightning-fast search and booking engine used by thousands of travelers and partners.
• • Write production-grade Go (Golang) services that scale horizontally and gracefully handle tens of thousands of concurrent searches, bookings, and post-booking modifications while maintaining sub-second latency and 99.9 % uptime.
• • Deeply integrate with Amadeus, Sabre, Travelport, and emerging NDC channels—modeling complex fare rules, seat maps, ancillary bundles, and change policies—so our users see accurate, real-time options instead of stale cache or cryptic error codes.
• • Build resilient data pipelines that normalize messy supplier schemas into clean, queryable formats in MySQL and Redis, then expose them through well-versioned gRPC and REST endpoints consumed by our web, mobile, and partner applications.
• • Champion observability: add distributed tracing, structured logging, and custom metrics so the team can detect anomalies, trace a booking failure to a single airline timeout, and fix issues before customers notice.
• • Collaborate daily with a tight-knit, four-engineer squad (AI, frontend, backend) and the COO in lightweight stand-ups. You will scope ambiguous requirements (“support multi-city NDC bundles with mixed cabin classes”) into clear epics, ship incremental slices every week, and demo impact to the cofounders.
• • Influence product direction: when you spot an edge-case in a carrier’s API that could derail a launch, you surface it early, propose mitigation strategies, and often end up defining the next quarter’s roadmap.
• • Document tribal knowledge—sequence diagrams, ADRs, runbooks—so onboarding the next engineer takes hours, not weeks, and so we never again lose a day to “why did we retry 429s three times instead of two?”
• • Automate everything that can be automated: CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, infrastructure as code with Terraform on AWS/GCP, canary deploys with Kubernetes, and self-healing integration tests that run on every PR.
• • Maintain security and compliance best practices (PCI-DSS scope reduction, OAuth2 flows, PII encryption at rest) while still moving at startup speed.
• • Mentor junior engineers through pair programming and thoughtful PR reviews, raising the bar for code quality without gate-keeping.
• • Enjoy real ownership: your commits reach production within hours, your dashboards are watched by the entire company, and your architectural choices directly shape the next 8 M in bookings.
