- • Join Teamworks Technologies, Inc. as a Backend Software Engineer II (Java) and play a pivotal role in the modernization of our core Athlete Management System (AMS) within the Performance category. This is a unique opportunity to significantly impact a foundational product by strengthening its backend architecture, enhancing reliability, boosting performance, and improving overall maintainability. You will be instrumental in evolving AMS, tackling complex challenges that directly affect our customers and contribute to the strategic direction of our technology.
- • As a key member of our engineering team, you will dive deep into the backend systems, focusing on critical areas such as resolving customer-facing issues, contributing to architectural enhancements, and modernizing our services and infrastructure. This role offers a blend of maintaining and improving existing robust systems while also participating in forward-thinking modernization initiatives. You will collaborate closely with a talented group of Engineering teammates, your Engineering Manager, and Product Managers, working together to deliver impactful improvements that elevate system performance and stability.
- • Success in this role is defined by your ability to solve real customer problems, streamline backend workflows, actively contribute to modernization efforts, and demonstrate growth into an engineer capable of independently owning and executing increasingly complex tasks. - • Your primary responsibilities will include contributing to the strategic modernization of the AMS backend architecture. This involves actively identifying and removing deprecated code, upgrading legacy dependencies to ensure a secure and efficient system, and implementing best practices for modern software development. You will be at the forefront of ensuring our systems are up-to-date and scalable for future growth.
- • A crucial aspect of this role involves resolving customer-reported bugs. You will investigate and fix issues related to forms, queues, and backend workflows, ensuring a seamless user experience. Importantly, you will also add comprehensive test coverage to these fixes, enhancing system stability and preventing regressions. This focus on quality assurance is paramount to maintaining customer satisfaction.
- • You will also be responsible for completing well-scoped feature work, contributing to the development of new functionalities and improvements. This includes actively participating in thoughtful code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers, and incorporating feedback into your own work. This collaborative approach ensures high-quality code and shared learning across the team.
- • Effective collaboration is key. You will work closely with frontend engineers to ensure seamless integration between the frontend and backend. Partnering with Product Managers, you will help scope and deliver small-to-medium backend tasks with increasing autonomy, translating product requirements into robust technical solutions.
- • Performance optimization is a significant focus. You will optimize API workflows and improve database performance, with a particular emphasis on identifying and fixing unoptimized PostgreSQL queries. This will directly lead to faster response times and a more efficient system for our users.
- • Furthermore, you will contribute to our infrastructure and DevOps efforts. This includes supporting our AWS environments, participating in CI/CD improvements, and ensuring the smooth operation of our deployment pipelines. You will gain valuable experience in cloud infrastructure management and automation.
- • To ensure the continuous availability and reliability of our production systems, you will participate in an on-call rotation. This involves troubleshooting issues, responding to incidents, and actively helping to maintain high system reliability and availability, ensuring our customers can always depend on our platform.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
- • Strong proficiency in Java and experience building RESTful APIs.
- • Solid understanding of PostgreSQL and database performance fundamentals.
- • Experience working in AWS environments and familiarity with modern CI/CD practices.
- • Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks and communicate clearly across teams.
- • Enthusiasm for improving legacy systems and modernizing existing architecture rather than only building greenfield services.
