📋 Description

• Set up and maintain secure host-to-host bank connections using SFTP, including SSH and PGP key exchange and endpoint configuration for global payment systems.
• Integrate and test end-to-end payment workflows, validating ISO 20022 file formats (PAIN and CAMT) and executing live penny tests with banks and customers.
• Lead technical bank integrations and payment projects, covering scoping, architecture, and delivery for domestic and international payment methods including SEPA, ACH, Wires, Faster Payments, CHAPS, and Bacs.
• Investigate and resolve payment and statement discrepancies using observability tools, system logs, and database queries to ensure accurate financial data flow.
• Improve reliability and scalability of payment pipelines by automating operational playbooks and building maintainable backend infrastructure to support high-volume transactions.
• Collaborate directly with bank technology teams, customer success, and engineering colleagues across time zones to ensure seamless integration and client onboarding.
• Read and write code as needed to debug payment formats, inspect database records, and enhance integration logic within a Kotlin-based monolith system.
• Work within a cloud-native environment hosted on AWS, leveraging Postgres for data storage and supporting payment operations with structured, repeatable processes.
• Contribute to the development of Light’s Smart Financial Platform by ensuring financial flows are automated, real-time, and aligned with modern business needs.
• Apply first-principles thinking to solve novel problems in payment connectivity, using AI or emerging tools to improve productivity and decision-making in operations.
• Document integration procedures, maintain technical runbooks, and ensure compliance with security standards across all bank connectivity workflows.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications for payment system enhancements and new bank partnerships.
• Continuously identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual effort, minimize errors, and accelerate time-to-market for new payment integrations.
• Support the onboarding of global clients by ensuring bank connections are configured correctly, tested thoroughly, and operational before go-live.
• Maintain awareness of evolving payment standards and regulatory requirements across jurisdictions to ensure platform compliance and reliability.
• Contribute to the broader mission of replacing legacy ERP systems with a modern financial platform that automates accounting and enables real-time financial reporting.
• Participate in technical reviews, incident post-mortems, and planning sessions to strengthen the resilience and performance of Light’s payment backbone.

🎯 Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience building backend systems in payments, fintech, or financial services, ideally with H2H, SFTP, or ISO 20022 integrations
• Strong backend development skills in Kotlin, Java, Go, or Python, and solid understanding of databases (Postgres or similar)
• Hands-on experience with payment file formats (PAIN and CAMT) and familiarity with SEPA, ACH, Wires, Faster Payments, CHAPS, and Bacs
• Clear communicator who can collaborate effectively with banks, customers, and teammates across time zones
• Structured, detail-oriented problem solver who takes ownership and continuously looks for process improvements
• Practical experience using AI or emerging technology tools to improve productivity, insight, or decision-making, with the ability to apply first-principles thinking to new problems
