This fully remote, full-time independent contractor role requires a dedicated professional with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of the revenue cycle. You will be the linchpin in a critical finance and accounting function, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to guarantee the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all billing activities.
- • Your primary responsibility will be the end-to-end management of the billing process, encompassing claims submission, payment posting, denial resolution, insurance verification, and proactive account follow-ups. This role is designed for individuals who excel in structured environments, take immense pride in their accuracy, and are driven to maintain the integrity of financial records. You will be a key point of contact for all billing-related inquiries and issues, requiring strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- • A significant portion of your role, approximately 35%, will involve Claims Processing & Billing Operations. This includes the preparation, meticulous review, and timely submission of billing claims. You will ensure that all claims are properly coded and supported by accurate documentation before submission, minimizing the risk of rejections. A crucial aspect of this responsibility is monitoring the status of submitted claims and proactively following up on any that are unpaid or pending, ensuring that revenue streams remain uninterrupted. Maintaining comprehensive and organized billing records and claim documentation is paramount to this function, providing a clear audit trail and supporting efficient operations.
- • Another substantial area of focus, accounting for 25% of your time, will be Denial Management & Resolution. This involves the critical task of investigating denied or rejected claims to identify their root causes. You will be responsible for preparing corrected claims and compiling necessary appeal documentation to challenge these denials. Effective collaboration with payers and internal teams is essential to resolve these issues promptly. Furthermore, you will track denial trends, providing valuable insights that support process improvements and help prevent future occurrences. Your ability to navigate complex denial scenarios and advocate for claim payment will directly impact the company's revenue.
- • Insurance Verification & Authorization will occupy about 15% of your responsibilities. This entails verifying insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits for patients or clients to ensure accurate billing. You will be responsible for obtaining and diligently tracking any required authorizations for services. Maintaining precise documentation of all authorizations is crucial for compliance and payment processing. Resolving discrepancies related to benefits or coverage will also be a key part of this function, ensuring that billing aligns with agreed-upon terms.
- • The Payment Posting & Accounts Receivable component, making up 10% of your role, involves accurately posting both insurance and patient payments. You will reconcile remittance advice and explanations of benefits to ensure all payments are accounted for correctly. Monitoring aging reports is essential for identifying outstanding balances and prioritizing follow-up actions. Any discrepancies or unresolved balances will need to be escalated appropriately, ensuring that accounts receivable are managed efficiently.
- • Billing Communication & Support, representing 10% of your duties, requires you to respond professionally and efficiently to billing inquiries received via email, phone, or designated portals. You will provide clear and concise updates on claim status and outstanding balances to relevant parties. Maintaining professional communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders, including payers and clients, is vital. Handling sensitive billing matters with the utmost discretion and professionalism is expected.
- • Finally, Compliance & Documentation, accounting for 5% of your role, ensures adherence to all relevant privacy and billing regulations. You will maintain organized, audit-ready billing records at all times. Following established billing policies and procedures diligently is non-negotiable, safeguarding the company against regulatory risks and ensuring operational consistency.
