- • Biosafety Red Teaming Specialist at OpenAI leads biological and chemical risk assessments to identify and mitigate misuse of AI systems, ensuring safe deployment of frontier models.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include shaping bio-relevant test plans, managing the Bio Bounty program, reviewing submissions for biological risk, translating findings into actionable safety work, and collaborating cross-functionally with Preparedness, Safety Systems, Policy, and Legal teams.
- • The Intelligence and Investigations team at OpenAI focuses on identifying abuse and strategic risks to AI systems, working closely with internal and external partners to uphold the mission of developing AI that benefits humanity.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in CBRN risks, adversarial testing, and AI safety evaluation while influencing OpenAI’s biosafety strategy and contributing to global efforts in responsible AI development.
🎯 Requirements
- • At least 8 years of technical CBRN experience with a scientific or technical background
- • Deep subject-matter expertise in biosafety, biosecurity, biodefense, synthetic biology, microbiology, public health security, or adjacent CBRN domains
- • Experience with bio red teaming, threat modeling, misuse analysis, adversarial testing, intelligence analysis, or professional casework involving malicious actors or weaponization pathways
- • Strong operations and/or program management experience
- • Ability to prioritize ambiguous findings based on severity, feasibility, novelty, exposure, and potential real-world impact
- • Excellent judgment in handling sensitive biological information and distinguishing legitimate research from harmful content
- • Skilled at communicating complex technical and risk judgments clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- • Comfortable working cross-functionally in fast-changing environments requiring both technical depth and pragmatic execution
- • Technical fluency to partner with data, engineering, and safety teams on signals, tooling, and scalable review processes
- • Resilience and thoughtfulness when engaging with sensitive, high-stakes material
