📋 Description

• As a Bookkeeping Specialist on the Human Data Team at xAI Corporation, you will play a critical role in advancing artificial intelligence by creating high-quality, annotated datasets derived from real-world bookkeeping scenarios. Your work directly supports the training, benchmarking, and refinement of AI models that aim to understand complex financial processes, making your expertise essential to xAI’s mission of building AI systems that can accurately interpret and assist with human knowledge domains.
• You will collaborate closely with technical staff, including engineers and data scientists, to label and annotate financial data across text, voice, and video formats. This includes interpreting bookkeeping tasks such as recording daily transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, performing bank reconciliations, handling basic payroll, and preparing financial reports—primarily using QuickBooks. Your annotations will help teach AI models how to accurately process and reason about financial information in practical business contexts.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include using proprietary software to provide precise input and labels on defined data projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality curated datasets that meet rigorous standards for accuracy and consistency. You will regularly interpret and execute tasks based on evolving instructions, adapting quickly to new guidelines as model performance goals shift.
• A key part of your role involves working on realistic bookkeeping problems drawn from small- to mid-sized business scenarios. You will analyze source materials like invoices, receipts, bank statements, and payroll entries, then provide accurate solutions, detailed annotations, and constructive critiques of model outputs when confident in your judgment—helping identify where AI succeeds or needs improvement.
• You will also collaborate with technical teams to improve the design and efficiency of annotation tools, offering feedback based on your hands-on experience to make workflows more intuitive and effective for future data labeling efforts.
• The role demands strong self-direction: you must be comfortable navigating bookkeeping resources, including QuickBooks help features, financial documents, and online references, exercising autonomous judgment even when information is incomplete or ambiguous.
• Your proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar tools will be used to organize, analyze, and validate financial data, supporting both annotation accuracy and internal quality checks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English is essential, as you will need to clearly articulate reasoning, document decisions, and share insights with teammates across functions.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of practical bookkeeping experience in a hands-on role managing day-to-day financial records for small- to mid-sized businesses.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks to perform core bookkeeping tasks including bank reconciliations, invoice processing, expense tracking, and basic financial statement preparation.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills when handling financial data and source documents.
• Comfort with Microsoft Excel or similar tools for data organization, analysis, and validation.
• Excellent reading and writing proficiency in English, both informal and professional, with strong comprehension and communication abilities.
• Enthusiasm for technology and AI advancements, with interest in improving business tools through human-AI collaboration.

• Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $35/hour to $65/hour for U.S.-based candidates, based on experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications.

• Fully remote work flexibility, allowing you to perform the role from any location worldwide, subject to legal eligibility and time-zone compatibility (note: unable to hire in Wyoming or Illinois for U.S. candidates).
• Flexible scheduling for contractor roles, with no fixed hour commitments—average workloads may involve at least 10 hours per week, but you control your own hours based on project needs and availability.
