- • Enter accurate and timely hospital charges into Cerner or PBAR patient accounting systems based on clinical documentation from revenue-producing departments.
- • Apply Keck Medical Center of USC charge capture policies, rules, and decision trees to assign correct charge codes for clinical services and procedures.
- • Perform daily reconciliation of department-generated clinical records with billing system reports to ensure complete and accurate charge capture.
- • Identify, correct, and resubmit rejected or incomplete charges to optimize revenue integrity and minimize claim denials.
- • Communicate missing or inaccurate clinical documentation to nursing teams, Coding Manager, Clinical Department Manager, or Patient Accounting Manager for process improvement.
- • Maintain strict compliance with CMS Medicare billing rules, including outpatient intravenous infusion, chemotherapy administration, and observation service charging guidelines.
- • Review own work for accuracy and completeness prior to end of shift to meet productivity and quality standards.
- • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of patient, physician, and health system information at all times.
- • Attend scheduled trainings and staff meetings, and implement learnings into daily charge capture processes.
- • Identify and escalate events requiring administrative review to Revenue Cycle Supervisor, Manager, or Director promptly.
- • Monitor and strive to meet minimum productivity and accuracy standards while recommending process enhancements to improve efficiency.
- • Alert management to any situation that could negatively impact patient care, department operations, public relations, or hospital integrity.
- • Utilize strong analytical skills to detect billing discrepancies, coding errors, and documentation gaps across multiple clinical sources.
- • Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and other required systems to support charge capture and reporting tasks.
- • Apply knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to interpret clinical documentation and assign appropriate charges.
- • Maintain current understanding of basic coding principles and healthcare billing practices to ensure regulatory compliance.
- • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the Revenue Integrity team and overall revenue cycle operations.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or equivalent
- • 2 years of clinical or healthcare experience, including charge entry or medical records
- • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and computerized billing systems
- • Strong data entry and quality outcome skills
- • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic coding
- • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
