- • Design, implement, and maintain internal and public-facing APIs used across Supabase products including Studio, CLI, management APIs, and OAuth applications.
- • Integrate with third-party platforms such as Vercel, Resend, and Lovable by developing custom integrations or providing clear API endpoints for external connectivity.
- • Collaborate with DevOps, Frontend, and other teams to ensure seamless integration and implementation of API functionality across the Supabase platform.
- • Build and enhance testing, debugging, and monitoring tools to ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of public APIs.
- • Expand OAuth applications capabilities to improve authentication and authorization workflows for Supabase users and partners.
- • Improve the overall public API experience through better documentation, error handling, pagination, and versioning practices.
- • Work with the dev-workflows team to enhance the Branching experience, making it more intuitive and valuable for Supabase users.
- • Apply API security best practices including rate limiting, CORS, JWT, and OAuth standards to protect Supabase’s API surface.
- • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments using Docker to streamline API development, testing, and release processes.
- • Maintain and evolve the Management API, which is written in TypeScript and Nest.js, serving as the central communication layer for all Supabase services.
- • Ensure APIs are scalable, maintainable, and performant under high usage across a globally distributed user base.
- • Use modern JavaScript/TypeScript tools including Vitest and Zod to enforce type safety and improve code quality in API development.
- • Leverage PostgreSQL knowledge to understand data models and optimize API interactions with Supabase’s underlying database layer.
- • Participate in async communication and decision-making processes as part of a globally distributed, remote-first team.
- • Contribute to open-source practices by building tools and integrations that align with Supabase’s open-source-first philosophy.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of experience in backend API development with strong expertise in TypeScript and JavaScript (Node.js)
- • Expertise in designing robust, scalable, and maintainable APIs with experience in API versioning, pagination, and error handling
- • Experience with OAuth, JWT, and API security best practices (rate limiting, CORS, etc.)
- • Good understanding of PostgreSQL and relational databases
- • Proven ability to build scalable APIs and develop tools for testing, debugging, and monitoring API performance
- • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and containerized deployments
