📋 Description

  • • Vetcove is at the forefront of modernizing the veterinary industry, a significant $50 billion plus sector, by providing cutting-edge software solutions that empower veterinary organizations to dedicate more time to patient care. Our comprehensive suite includes a leading procurement marketplace, a sophisticated e-commerce platform for home delivery, and a next-generation practice management system. With over 25,000 hospitals across all 50 states relying on Vetcove daily, we support tens of thousands of veterinarians who collectively care for millions of pets each year. As a fast-growing, mission-driven company backed by prominent investors like Y Combinator, we are seeking a talented and passionate Controller to join our dynamic team and help shape the future of veterinary care.
  • • As the Controller, you will be instrumental in developing and executing robust accounting policies and procedures, while simultaneously scaling our accounting systems and tools to support Vetcove's rapid growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing and directing all accounting activities within the company. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment, enjoys tackling complex problems, and is eager to pioneer new processes to enhance financial operations. You will be expected to both execute daily accounting functions and lead strategic initiatives.
  • • Your responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end management of the accounting function, including but not limited to: overseeing accounting operations, managing payroll, ensuring timely tax filings, handling invoicing, meticulously tracking and reconciling bank accounts, administering expense management, contributing to budgeting processes, and managing payment processing, all primarily through QuickBooks.
  • • You will play a critical role in the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end consolidated financial statements and accompanying notes. This includes coordinating any external audits of these financial statements, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • • A key aspect of this role involves establishing, implementing, and diligently monitoring accounting policies, practices, and systems. You will also be responsible for cultivating and maintaining a strong internal control environment to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • • Ensuring that all tax obligations are met and filed on a timely basis is a core responsibility. You will also implement and refine effective processes for forecasting, tracking, and managing all cash receipts and disbursements, providing critical insights into the company's cash flow.
  • • You will be tasked with providing comprehensive and timely financial reporting and analysis to senior management and other internal and external stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making across the organization.
  • • Effective communication with external vendors regarding receivable collections will be a part of your duties, ensuring healthy cash flow and strong vendor relationships.
  • • You will ensure that all accounting, treasury, and tax transactions and provisions are processed efficiently and recorded accurately and promptly, maintaining the highest standards of financial record-keeping.
  • • Staying abreast of evolving legislation, particularly concerning marketplaces and remote-first companies, is crucial to ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant tax laws and guidance.
  • • A proactive approach to identifying issues in both processes and accounting for transactions is expected. You will be responsible for proposing and implementing solutions, often in collaboration with external auditors, to continuously improve financial operations.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to build a premiere accounting function from the ground up, strengthening processes, building essential infrastructure, and guiding the function's growth within the company. You will be instrumental in coaching and mentoring your team while remaining hands-on, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. By partnering across the business, you will ensure our systems and processes are running smoothly and efficiently, contributing significantly to Vetcove's overall success.
