📋 Description

  • • Campus LLC is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Controller to spearhead its accounting operations and ensure robust financial accuracy, compliance, and scalability as the company progresses beyond its Series C funding round.
  • • This pivotal role is central to upholding the company's financial integrity, with the Controller serving as the primary point of contact and owner for all aspects of the financial close, external audits, internal controls, and the management of accounting systems.
  • • Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will be an indispensable partner, providing critical support for board-level reporting and fostering confidence among investors and regulatory bodies.
  • • The Finance & Accounting team at Campus is dedicated to maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of the company's financial operations, a crucial task as they scale a mission-driven, regulated education platform.
  • • The team functions as a strategic business partner, equipping leadership, the Board, investors, and regulators with clear, defensible financial reporting and disciplined operational execution.
  • • Collaboration is key, with the team working closely across the entire organization to navigate the complexities inherent in tuition-based revenue models, intricate student financing structures, and the substantial volume of transactions characteristic of a rapidly expanding company.
  • • As Campus continues its growth trajectory, the Finance & Accounting team is committed to establishing strong internal controls, implementing scalable systems, and developing well-documented processes, all while preserving the agility essential in a high-growth environment.
  • • The team fosters a culture that values accountability, collaboration, and a profound sense of responsibility towards the students they serve.
  • • Key Responsibilities:
  • • Financial Close & Reporting:
  • • Lead and manage a rigorous monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, with a target completion time of 5-8 business days.
  • • Ensure the utmost accuracy in accounting and reporting for critical areas including tuition revenue and deferred revenue, student financing and alternative payment structures, and resource sharing and partner arrangements.
  • • Maintain strict adherence to US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), including comprehensive knowledge and application of ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers), ASC 718 (Compensation—Stock Options and Other Equity-Based Compensation), and ASC 842 (Leases).
  • • Audit, Controls & Compliance:
  • • Take full ownership of the annual financial statement audits, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • • Develop, implement, and maintain robust accounting policies, comprehensive documentation, and effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity.
  • • Collaborate closely with the Compliance team to navigate regulatory examinations and fulfill financial reporting requirements mandated by educational and financial regulations.
  • • Proactively identify, assess, and remediate any potential accounting, audit, or compliance risks, ensuring the company remains ahead of potential issues.
  • • Systems & Process Scale:
  • • Oversee and continuously enhance the company's accounting systems and data integrity, including the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system (such as NetSuite or a comparable solution), equity administration platforms (e.g., Carta), and tools for accounts payable, payroll, and expense management (e.g., Rippling, Ramp).
  • • Design and implement scalable accounting processes that effectively balance the need for speed, accuracy, and robust control mechanisms.
  • • Lead system implementations and optimization projects to support the company's ongoing growth and evolving needs.
  • • Team Leadership:
  • • Build, manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • • Establish clear performance expectations, uphold strong documentation standards, and ensure the consistent application of well-defined processes across the team.
  • • Cultivate organizational readiness by developing talent and creating bench strength within the accounting function.
  • • You’re excited about this opportunity because you will:
  • • Play a crucial role in building and leading the accounting function for a rapidly expanding, mission-driven company operating at the dynamic intersection of education and technology.
  • • Be the ultimate owner of financial accuracy and credibility within a regulated, tuition-driven environment where precision is paramount.
  • • Serve as a key strategic partner to the CFO and the senior leadership team, directly supporting board reporting, investor due diligence, and long-term strategic planning for scalability.
  • • Have the opportunity to design, implement, and refine accounting processes, internal controls, and systems that position Campus for future institutional and public-company readiness.
  • • Lead and develop a growing team, establishing a strong culture characterized by rigor, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • • Witness the direct and tangible impact of your work in facilitating access to affordable, outcomes-focused higher education for a significant number of students.
  • • We’re excited about you because you:
  • • Possess deep, demonstrable expertise in accounting principles, audit procedures, and financial controls, taking immense pride in meticulous attention to detail.
  • • Have a proven track record of successfully scaling accounting functions within high-growth, venture-backed organizations, understanding the benchmarks for excellence at Series C and beyond.
  • • Are adept at operating within regulated or complex business environments and excel at building effective partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • • Skillfully combine technical accounting rigor with sound business judgment and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to challenges.
