Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Design and develop standardized controls packages for modular data center builds, ensuring one validated design set is reused across all sites to eliminate redundant project-by-project redrawing.
  • • Author sequences of operations (SOOs) that define the runtime behavior of mechanical and electrical systems, serving as the authoritative source for programming teams implementing control logic in real controllers.
  • • Create and maintain standardized points lists and bills of materials (BOMs) that specify instrumentation, I/O, and controls hardware for every modular data center deployment, ensuring consistency and minimizing change orders.
  • • Own the Division 25 Integrated Automation Specification end to end, continuously updating it to reflect evolving equipment, vendor specifications, and site design changes.
  • • Coordinate controls design across mechanical, electrical, and commissioning teams to ensure alignment between system requirements, equipment capabilities, and commissioning test protocols.
  • • Eliminate coordination gaps between disciplines before they reach field implementation by proactively identifying misalignments in scope, specification, or interface definitions.
  • • Translate one-off engineering solutions into repeatable, template-based designs that enable scalable, high-speed deployment of 50GW+ of data center capacity this decade.
  • • Ensure controls designs are implemented without requiring contractor or programmer clarification, producing clear, unambiguous documentation that drives flawless execution.
  • • Apply first-principles thinking to challenge existing assumptions in controls architecture, optimizing for speed, reliability, and automation in frontier AI infrastructure.
  • • Support autonomous and robotic deployment initiatives by designing controls systems that enable plug-and-play commissioning at Level 4 and Level 5 automation standards.
  • • Integrate behind-the-meter energy systems, real-time load control, and MEP systems into unified automation frameworks that support grid-responsive, high-efficiency data center operations.
  • • Maintain deep familiarity with BACnet and Modbus protocols, BMS and SCADA platforms, and CSI MasterFormat standards to ensure technical accuracy and industry compliance.
  • • Drive automation of commissioning processes through standardized digital controls templates that reduce manual intervention and accelerate time-to-operational.
  • • Work with high velocity and extreme ownership, often expanding scope beyond core responsibilities to ensure project milestones are met without delay.
  • • Contribute to building civilization-scale AI infrastructure by ensuring controls systems are reliable, scalable, and aligned with the mission of expanding human freedom through compute.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Produced controls design packages, drawings, points lists, or specifications that contractors or programmers implemented without requiring clarification.
  • • Written sequences of operations for mechanical or electrical systems and seen them successfully implemented in real controllers, understanding where vague SOOs fail in code.
  • • Authored or owned a Division 25 Integrated Automation Specification or equivalent controls specification and maintained its accuracy across multiple projects.
  • • Built standard points lists and BOMs and understand how incorrect point counts or mis-specified devices lead to costly change orders months after deployment.
  • • Designed for repeatability, transforming one-off engineering into reusable templates to avoid redrawing every project from scratch.
  • • Identified and resolved coordination gaps between mechanical, electrical, and controls scopes before they reached the field.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Compensation of $200,000 - $250,000 per year, based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
  • • Equity in the form of stock options.
  • • Extreme ownership and full autonomy in role execution.
  • • High-velocity work environment focused on pushing the frontier of AI infrastructure.
