📋 Description

• Lead BeReal’s engineering organization comprising 12 squads and approximately 80 engineers and product professionals across iOS, Android, and Backend codebases.
• Own system stability for a platform where millions of users post simultaneously within a two-minute daily window, requiring extreme scalability and reliability.
• Manage release discipline, feature flagging, platform infrastructure, and developer experience across all three codebases to ensure consistent, high-quality deployments.
• Own infrastructure cost as a P&L line item, optimizing spending on GCP, Cloud Spanner, and media delivery systems at global scale.
• Drive the migration of legacy Node.js services to Go without compromising delivery velocity or system stability.
• Hire, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent while maintaining a high bar for technical excellence and cultural fit.
• Define and execute technical strategy in close partnership with BeReal’s CEO and product leadership to align engineering goals with business objectives.
• Implement and maintain regression-prevention systems to enable multiple teams to ship features in parallel without introducing critical bugs.
• Oversee the use of GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, ArgoCD, Datadog, and Fastly to power a globally distributed, high-throughput application.
• Manage core data infrastructure including Cloud Spanner, Redis, PostgreSQL, and Pub/Sub to support real-time user interactions and analytics.
• Ensure mobile app quality through Swift/SwiftUI (iOS) and Kotlin (Android) codebases, maintaining performance and user experience at scale.
• Leverage BigQuery, Airflow, DBT, and Amplitude for data-driven decision-making across product and engineering teams.
• Foster a culture of clear writing, async decision-making, and metric-driven accountability across distributed engineering teams.
• Support the continued growth of BeReal as the leading authentic social platform, targeting hundreds of millions of users.

🎯 Requirements

• 12+ years of engineering experience with 6+ years leading teams of 80–200+ engineers
• Proven track record of scaling a high-traffic consumer product or comparable high-throughput infrastructure
• Architect-level depth in distributed systems and ability to engage deeply with staff engineers on technical trade-offs
• Experience building systems that prevent regressions across multiple parallel engineering teams
• Leadership of distributed engineering teams using clear communication, metrics, and async decision-making
• Familiarity with consumer social, camera, or media products and native mobile app organizations (preferred)
