Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Customer-Facing Product Engineer at Ascertain, you will be a full-stack engineer responsible for building and shipping production systems that power real-world healthcare workflows, directly addressing the administrative burden on care teams by integrating with complex, legacy healthcare systems such as payer portals, practice management systems, and spreadsheets to create reliable, scalable solutions.
- • You will work directly with healthcare customers to understand their operational workflows, translate ambiguous, real-world needs into technical specifications, and build end-to-end features that integrate systems and extend existing workflows, ensuring your solutions are production-grade and deployed in live environments.
- • You will identify recurring patterns across customer engagements and feed them back into the core product platform, enabling Ascertain to solve problems once and scale solutions across multiple health systems, thereby amplifying the impact of your engineering work.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include writing production code in Python (with FastAPI) and TypeScript, building and maintaining integrations with external APIs and third-party systems, handling imperfect or messy data sources, and shipping features end-to-end from concept to deployment.
- • You will collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer teams, translating customer feedback into technical roadmap items while maintaining a low-ego, ownership-driven mindset focused on outcomes rather than just task completion.
- • You will operate in ambiguous, evolving environments common in healthcare IT, where you must create structure from uncertainty, manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, and adapt quickly to changing priorities without sacrificing quality or attention to detail.
- • Ascertain’s mission is to restore time, trust, and focus to healthcare teams by automating administrative work through AI agents; your engineering contributions directly enable this mission by making AI-powered tools work reliably in the messy reality of healthcare operations.
- • You will have the opportunity to shape internal playbooks, influence product direction based on field insights, and grow into leadership roles over time as you demonstrate impact and ownership across customer engagements and technical initiatives.
- • The role is remote within the USA with approximately 10–20% travel for customer site visits, allowing you to engage deeply with users while maintaining flexibility in your work location.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer with a proven track record of shipping production systems end-to-end
- • Strong full-stack engineering skills, including mandatory Python experience and preferred familiarity with FastAPI and TypeScript
- • Demonstrated ability to build or integrate with external APIs, third-party systems, and imperfect or legacy data sources in complex environments
- • Proven experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders in a technical capacity, with strong English communication skills
- • Ability to translate real-world, ambiguous workflows into scalable technical solutions at the intersection of product and engineering
- • Comfort working in startup environments with ambiguity, strong ownership mindset, and ability to context-switch across multiple workstreams without losing momentum
🏖️ Benefits
- • Opportunity to make a tangible impact on healthcare by reducing administrative burden on care teams and improving operational clarity in major health systems
- • Remote work flexibility within the USA with occasional customer travel (10–20%) to engage directly with users and understand real-world workflows
- • Exposure to cutting-edge AI applications in healthcare, working alongside backers like Northwell Health and Deerfield Management to drive financial resilience and operational stability
- • Collaborative, low-ego culture that values ownership, thoughtful technical judgment, and cross-functional partnership across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Customer teams
- • Pathway to grow into leadership roles by shaping playbooks, influencing product strategy, and taking on greater responsibility over time based on impact and initiative
