  • • Locate and mark underground utilities, including fiber optic cables, using paint, flags, and various detection techniques such as electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and radar.
  • • Analyze construction blueprints to determine the location and scope of excavation projects and identify potential risks to Zayo’s infrastructure.
  • • Map the precise location and depth of underground utilities to prevent damage during construction and excavation activities.
  • • Document site information, utility locations, and interactions with clients and engineers using organizational software systems.
  • • Pinpoint utility coordinates using GPS and surveying equipment to ensure accurate asset mapping and network integrity.
  • • Maintain and replenish on-site and truck inventory of marking materials, tools, and network equipment.
  • • Coordinate the shipping and receiving of company and customer materials related to utility projects.
  • • Inspect cabinets, buried cables, construction sites, and outdoor facilities in diverse environmental conditions, including extreme weather and exposure to local flora and fauna.
  • • Operate and maintain test sets, diagnostic tools, and company-issued equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety compliance.
  • • Uphold network and site security standards, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to all company policies regarding property and equipment.
  • • Communicate directly with clients, engineers, and internal management to relay critical utility location data and project updates.
  • • Proactively identify potential damage risks to Zayo’s infrastructure and recommend preventive actions to mitigate hazards.
  • • Work both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other departments to achieve operational goals and safety standards.
  • • Operate on a rotating 24/7/365 on-call schedule, including standby, call-outs, dispatches, overtime, and occasional travel as required by business needs.
  • • Lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds and transport them clear of job sites.
  • • Follow all personal safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
  • • Maintain eligibility to operate a company-issued vehicle, including holding a valid state driver’s license and having no more than two moving violations within the past three years.

🎯 Requirements

  • • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • • Up to 1 year of relevant experience in field construction tasks
  • • Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and maintain eligibility to operate a company vehicle (no more than 2 moving violations in past 3 years)
  • • Proficiency in using computers, cell phones, Microsoft Windows, and Office applications
  • • Must have a personal cell phone
  • • Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds regularly
