- • Locate and mark Zayo’s underground utilities, including fiber optic cables, using electrical, magnetic, GPS, blueprint analysis, and radar techniques to prevent damage during excavation and construction.
- • Analyze blueprints and construction plans to determine the precise location and depth of underground utilities prior to any ground-disturbing activities.
- • Document utility locations, site conditions, and interactions through digital platforms and photographic evidence to ensure accurate records and compliance.
- • Pinpoint utility coordinates using GPS and surveying equipment to maintain precise asset mapping and network integrity.
- • Operate independently with moderate autonomy while adhering to established safety and operational procedures for utility protection.
- • Maintain and inspect tools, test sets, and network equipment to ensure functionality and readiness for field operations.
- • Manage asset inventory and replenish on-site and truck materials, including coordinating shipping and receiving of company and customer materials.
- • Inspect cabinets, buried cables, construction sites, and outdoor facilities in diverse environmental conditions, including extreme weather, and exposure to local flora and fauna.
- • Engage with and evaluate the performance of vendor and contractor teams performing work on Zayo’s infrastructure.
- • Communicate directly with clients, engineers, and internal management to coordinate activities and resolve potential utility conflict areas.
- • Ensure compliance with all company policies regarding network/site security, cleanliness, and property maintenance.
- • Operate on a rotating 24/7/365 on-call schedule, including standby, call-outs, dispatches, and overtime, as required by business needs.
- • Lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds and transport them clear of job sites.
- • Maintain eligibility to operate company-issued vehicles per policy, including a valid state driver’s license and no more than two moving violations in the past three years.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience with utility locating, fiber optic cable builds, and field construction tasks
- • High school diploma or equivalent
- • Must be able to operate on-call 24/7/365 on a rotating schedule, including standby, call-out, dispatch, and overtime
- • Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and maintain eligibility to operate a company-issued vehicle (no more than 2 moving violations in past 3 years)
- • Ability to regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 100 pounds
- • Proficiency in using computers, cell phones, test equipment, Microsoft Windows, and Office applications
