Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • Are you a data-driven innovator with a passion for transforming raw information into tangible business value? Takealot.com, South Africa's premier online retailer, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Analyst to join our dynamic Data Insights - Monetisation team. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and scaling Takealot's external-facing data products, creating new revenue streams, and empowering our partners to thrive.
  • As a Data Analyst within the Data Insights - Monetisation team, you will be at the forefront of building Takealot's external-facing data products. Your primary mission will be to leverage Takealot's extensive first-party data to develop high-value insight products. These products will not only assist our sellers, suppliers, and brands in growing their businesses but also establish a scalable and profitable new revenue stream for Takealot. This role operates at the exciting intersection of data science, product development, and commercial strategy, offering you the chance to be a foundational architect of a product-led insights business.
  • You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying a suite of analytical tools and reports. This includes creating intuitive seller, supplier, and brand-facing dashboards that provide actionable insights into their performance, market trends, and customer behaviour. Your work will directly contribute to the creation of commercial insight products, such as performance benchmarking tools, category intelligence reports, and demand signal indicators, enabling our partners to make more informed strategic decisions.
  • Furthermore, you will be involved in developing innovative data-as-a-service offerings and API-based solutions. This will allow external partners to seamlessly integrate Takealot's rich data into their own systems and workflows, unlocking new possibilities for analysis and growth. A significant aspect of your role will also involve building robust experimentation and measurement frameworks. These frameworks will be crucial for evaluating the impact of various initiatives and providing partners with clear, data-backed evidence of their success and areas for improvement.
  • This is a hands-on role where you will be expected to dive deep into complex datasets, identify patterns, and translate them into clear, compelling narratives and visualisations. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and commercial teams to understand partner needs, define product roadmaps, and ensure the successful delivery of data products. Your analytical prowess will be key in identifying opportunities for data product innovation and optimisation, ensuring Takealot remains at the cutting edge of data-driven insights.
  • We are a hyper-growth company with a young, dynamic culture. We value smart, creative, hard-working individuals with a strong sense of integrity. If you are looking for a challenging environment where you can learn from the best, contribute to significant projects, and grow your career within a leading e-commerce group, then this is the place for you. You will have the opportunity to work with industry leaders, upskill rapidly, and expand your career within the fast-growing Takealot Group, which includes takealot.com and Mr D. We have a strong commitment to internal promotion, offering clear pathways for career advancement.
  • Your responsibilities will encompass the entire data product lifecycle, from ideation and design to development, deployment, and ongoing iteration. You will be responsible for data modelling, ETL processes, and ensuring data quality and integrity for all monetised data products. You will also play a key role in defining key performance indicators (KPIs) for these products and tracking their success against business objectives. The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders will be essential, as you will be presenting your findings and recommendations to various internal and external audiences.
  • Join us and be part of a team that is revolutionising how businesses leverage data in the South African e-commerce landscape. With over 4 million happy shoppers on takealot.com, the scale of data and the potential for impact are immense. If you are ready to be challenged, to learn, and to build something truly great, we encourage you to apply.

🎯 Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Data Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, or similar role, with a strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and user-friendly products.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis, coupled with experience in at least one major data visualisation tool (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and/or dashboarding tools.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data modelling techniques. Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) is advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in large datasets and translate them into business recommendations.

🏖️ Benefits

  • Market-related, Total Remuneration Package with full flexibility according to your needs.
  • A great work environment within a young, dynamic, hyper-growth company.
  • Opportunities for rapid learning and upskilling alongside industry leaders.
  • Clear career growth and advancement opportunities, with a focus on internal promotion within the Takealot Group.
  • The chance to work on challenging projects with significant impact in the rapidly evolving e-commerce sector.
