Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead root-cause investigations into unexpected spikes or anomalies in email abuse patterns to identify malicious actors and systemic vulnerabilities.
- • Deeply understand and continuously monitor evolving email abuse vectors including spam, phishing, account takeover, and sender spoofing across global sender populations.
- • Define, instrument, and track core Trust & Safety metrics including time to detect, false-positive rate, coverage, and enforcement latency to measure system effectiveness and guide prioritization.
- • Build and maintain interactive dashboards and reports in BI tools to provide real-time and historical visibility into user behavior, policy violations, and abuse trends for cross-functional teams.
- • Analyze the effectiveness of detection signals using statistical measures such as precision, recall, drift, and overlap to optimize rule-based and model-driven detection systems.
- • Collaborate with data engineering to ensure the correctness, coverage, and freshness of event data pipelines feeding into Trust & Safety analytics and monitoring systems.
- • Partner with engineering and operations teams to design, execute, and evaluate A/B tests on policy changes, detection rules, and enforcement actions to assess trade-offs between safety and usability.
- • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders including product, engineering, and customer support teams.
- • Build analytical frameworks and measurement systems from ambiguity to quantify abuse trends and operational performance in the absence of pre-defined KPIs.
- • Apply statistical validation, estimation, and sampling techniques to derive reliable conclusions from large-scale, noisy behavioral datasets.
- • Leverage familiarity with prediction and classification models to assess the potential of machine learning approaches for automating abuse detection and reducing manual review burden.
- • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulatory shifts, and emerging threats in email security and digital trust ecosystems.
- • Own the end-to-end analysis lifecycle—from hypothesis formulation and data extraction to insight delivery and iterative improvement of detection systems.
- • Serve as the primary data authority for the Trust & Safety squad, ensuring all decisions are grounded in rigorous, reproducible analytics.
- • Proactively identify gaps in data instrumentation and advocate for improvements that enhance signal fidelity and operational visibility.
- • Document analytical processes, metrics definitions, and system assumptions to enable knowledge sharing and scalability as the team grows.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years in data or analytics roles, ideally in security, fraud, or trust and safety
- • Fluent in SQL and data tooling (e.g., Looker, Mode, Metabase, BI)
- • Comfortable working with large event/data sets
- • Strong sense of measurement: you build metrics that drive decisions
- • Good communicator—can explain nuanced analytics to non-data folks
- • You thrive in ambiguity, can build frameworks out of thin air
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote work with a global team spanning 12 countries
- • Backed by a16z and Y Combinator
- • Opportunity to be the first Data Analyst on the Trust & Safety squad
- • Work on a mission-critical product protecting email as a democratized communication medium
