- • Own the end-to-end data journey for Avride’s autonomous vehicle and delivery-robot fleets, turning terabytes of sensor, telemetry, and operational data into clear, decision-ready insights that directly steer product strategy and engineering priorities.
- • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve data from lidar, camera, CAN-bus, GPS, and edge-device logs in near real-time; ensure every byte is traceable, reliable, and optimized for both exploratory analytics and production ML workloads.
- • Partner daily with perception, planning, controls, and operations teams to translate open research questions into measurable KPIs—then create the dashboards, notebooks, and automated reports that let engineers see the impact of every code change within hours, not weeks.
- • Architect and evolve our analytics warehouse (Snowflake/BigQuery) and lakehouse layers (Iceberg/Delta) so that petabyte-scale queries return in seconds; implement data-quality tests, lineage tracking, and cost-governance guardrails that keep growth sustainable as the fleet multiplies.
- • Develop statistical models and experimentation frameworks that quantify safety, performance, and customer-experience improvements; surface findings to executives in crisp visual stories that influence funding, roadmap sequencing, and go-to-market timing.
- • Champion a culture of data excellence by writing clear documentation, mentoring junior analysts, and evangelizing best practices in SQL, Python, dbt, Airflow, and Git across remote engineering pods spanning three continents.
- • Collaborate with DevOps and Security to harden data infrastructure against breaches and downtime; lead incident retrospectives and automate recovery playbooks so that the fleet keeps learning even when humans are off the clock.
- • Continuously scan the open-source and cloud-native ecosystems for new tools—whether it’s DuckDB for ad-hoc exploration, Flink for low-latency stream processing, or Great Expectations for anomaly detection—and run proof-of-concepts that keep Avride two steps ahead of the industry curve.
- • Translate complex geospatial, time-series, and image-derived datasets into intuitive visual layers for operations managers who need to reroute robots during city-wide events or for policy makers evaluating curb-side deployment permits.
- • Build self-service analytics portals that empower non-technical stakeholders to answer their own questions, freeing you to focus on deeper, higher-impact analyses that unlock the next breakthrough in autonomous behavior.
- • Influence hardware roadmaps by correlating sensor-failure patterns with environmental conditions, enabling data-driven decisions on which lidar supplier or camera spec delivers the best ROI across millions of autonomous miles.
- • Present quarterly “state of the data” briefings to the CTO and VP of Engineering, spotlighting wins, bottlenecks, and investment needs in a narrative that blends technical depth with business clarity.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of hands-on experience building production-grade data pipelines in SQL, Python, and a modern orchestrator such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.
- • Deep expertise with cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and lakehouse formats (Iceberg, Delta, or Hudi); comfortable tuning complex queries that scan billions of rows.
- • Demonstrated ability to design real-time streaming architectures using Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar and to integrate them seamlessly with batch workflows.
- • Strong statistical foundation—able to design A/B tests, apply regression or Bayesian methods, and communicate uncertainty to non-statisticians.
- • Nice-to-have: prior exposure to robotics, IoT, or geospatial datasets; familiarity with Rust or C++ for performance-critical transforms; experience with dbt, Great Expectations, and Terraform in a GitOps environment.
