📋 Description

• As the Data Science Manager at Wayflyer, you will be at the forefront of driving innovation and strategic decision-making through advanced data science and machine learning. This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership role where you will guide a talented team of 4+ Data Science and ML Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of Wayflyer's go-to-market and funding processes by developing and deploying production-grade ML models that directly impact our business growth and risk assessment capabilities.
• Your responsibilities will span the entire machine learning lifecycle. This includes overseeing dataset annotation, meticulously training models, ensuring seamless deployment into production environments, and establishing robust monitoring systems. You will also be responsible for the maintenance of the underlying infrastructure, ensuring scalability and reliability. Wayflyer views Machine Learning as an integral part of software engineering, so you will be expected to be deeply involved in the technical execution, including writing code, conducting thorough code reviews, and championing best practices in software development.
• A key aspect of your role will be to define and execute the data science roadmap. This involves close collaboration with Product and Engineering leads to ensure that our data science initiatives are tightly aligned with Wayflyer's overarching business objectives. You will translate complex business challenges, particularly those related to risk and growth, into tangible, data-driven solutions that provide a competitive edge.
• You will be responsible for implementing and upholding the highest engineering standards. This includes establishing reproducible data pipelines, implementing automated testing frameworks to ensure code quality and system stability, and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all developed models and systems. This focus on engineering rigor will be critical for the long-term success and maintainability of our ML infrastructure.
• Effective stakeholder management is crucial. You will need to communicate complex technical findings and the implications of your team's work to a diverse audience, including VPs and C-suite executives. The ability to translate intricate data insights into clear, actionable recommendations that drive strategic business decisions will be a hallmark of your success.
• Embracing an AI-native approach is essential. You will guide your team to leverage the power of AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) not merely as tools, but as genuine accelerants for producing high-quality, impactful outputs. This means exploring innovative ways to integrate these technologies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and the overall value delivered by the data science function.
• As a leader, you will mentor and develop your team members, fostering their professional growth and ensuring they have the skills and support needed to excel. You will actively participate in hiring and scaling the team, attracting top talent to maintain our high standards of performance and innovation.
• You will champion a data-driven culture across the organization, encouraging the use of data and insights to inform decisions at all levels. This includes promoting data literacy and ensuring that the insights generated by your team are accessible and understood by relevant stakeholders.
• The role requires a proactive approach to identifying new opportunities where data science and ML can create significant business value. This could involve exploring novel modeling techniques, investigating new data sources, or developing innovative applications of existing technologies to solve Wayflyer's unique challenges.
• Ultimately, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and operational success of the Data Science team, ensuring that Wayflyer remains at the cutting edge of data-driven innovation in the FinTech space.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Data Science or Machine Learning, with a minimum of 2 years in a formal management or team lead role.
• Proven track record as an individual contributor, with hands-on experience in building, deploying, and maintaining production-grade ML systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, demonstrating core engineering skills comparable to a Software Engineer.
• Practical experience with MLOps tools and practices, including model deployment, monitoring, and orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).
• Strong product thinking ability, with a demonstrated capacity to translate business challenges, particularly in risk or growth domains, into effective technical data solutions.
• Experience with modern data stack technologies and cloud platforms.
