Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Model accurate digital twin electric networks from imperfect data using AI, deep learning, and classical ML algorithms to simulate extreme weather and structural stress across millions of kilometers of power grid infrastructure.
- • Analyze rich, multi-modal real-world data including topography, LIDAR, aerial imagery, photogrammetry, vegetation, structural loading, and electrical connectivity to inform and refine the digital twin model.
- • Surface actionable analytics and metrics—such as wildfire risk and infrastructure vulnerability—to guide utility customers in infrastructure buildout, investment prioritization, and risk mitigation.
- • Conduct experiments and A/B tests to evaluate and improve grid modeling accuracy, predictive performance, and scalability of machine learning outputs.
- • QA and enhance predictive models by identifying data issues including distribution drift, overfitting, and test set leakage to ensure model reliability and robustness.
- • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform diverse data sources including LiDAR, satellite imagery, and GIS datasets.
- • Advise company leadership and product teams on data-driven strategy, leveraging insights from data patterns to shape product direction and long-term roadmap decisions.
- • Translate machine learning models into deployable software features that become core components of Neara’s product offering, directly influencing real-world energy infrastructure decisions.
- • Mentor team members in best practices for model training, data analytics, and building data-driven products to elevate team-wide technical capabilities.
- • Work alongside ML engineers and product-facing engineering teams to integrate data science outputs into production systems and infrastructure planning tools used by utilities globally.
- • Own end-to-end problem ownership for novel, high-stakes challenges in a fast-paced, cutting-edge domain with minimal precedent and no existing playbook.
- • Communicate complex technical findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including senior executives and utility customers, to drive alignment and decision-making.
- • Operate effectively in an asynchronous, globally distributed environment while collaborating cross-functionally on ambiguous, high-impact problems.
- • Continuously explore and apply state-of-the-art techniques in geospatial ML, physics-informed AI, and large-scale data engineering to push the boundaries of what digital twins can achieve for energy resilience.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3-6 years of experience as a data scientist, ML scientist, or similar role at technical, data-driven companies operating in complex environments
- • Demonstrated experience with AI and machine learning, including a strong intuition for data modeling and translating models into deployable software
- • Proficiency in data storage and ETL technologies such as Parquet, Databricks, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Spark, and DynamoDB
- • Comfort working in an AWS cloud environment
- • Experience working with geospatial data or power grid systems is a plus
- • Excellent problem-solving skills applied to new, high-stakes domains
🏖️ Benefits
- • Work with a sophisticated, multi-modal data stack including LiDAR, satellite imagery, and physics-enabled digital twins to solve high-stakes engineering problems
- • Models directly prevent wildfires and mitigate disaster risks across millions of kilometers of infrastructure, creating tangible real-world impact
- • Advise company strategy and see experiments evolve into core product features that shape how global utilities invest in energy infrastructure
- • Highly competitive compensation package with a significant equity component, making you a true stakeholder in the company’s global scale and mission
