� Description

• • Join the newly-expanded Data Science & Analytics team at ION Group’s Pisa hub and become the analytical engine behind next-generation financial-market products. You will work on terabytes of heterogeneous data—market feeds, client interactions, internal processes—and turn them into predictive models, interactive dashboards and strategic insights that directly shape product roadmaps and client offerings.
• • Own end-to-end data science projects: translate fuzzy business questions into crisp hypotheses, design statistically rigorous experiments, mine and engineer features from structured and unstructured data, build and validate models, and package findings into compelling narratives for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• • Rapidly prototype solutions using Python (preferred), R or MATLAB; productionise pipelines that scale on our big-data stack; and continuously monitor model performance to ensure robustness in fast-moving market conditions.
• • Collaborate with product managers, quants, engineers, UX designers and sales teams across Europe and the Americas. Your insights will feed directly into sprint planning, client demos and executive briefings, ensuring that every new feature is grounded in evidence and measurable ROI.
• • Drive innovation through advanced statistics and machine-learning techniques—think gradient boosting, time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, NLP on client communications and network analysis of market micro-structure—always selecting the simplest tool that solves the problem.
• • Visualise complex relationships using Power BI, Tableau or bespoke D3/Plotly dashboards, enabling traders, risk managers and C-suite executives to explore data and make decisions in real time.
• • Champion data quality and governance: design validation rules, document lineage and advocate for scalable data architectures that reduce technical debt and accelerate future analyses.
• • Stay ahead of the curve by scanning academic literature, open-source projects and fintech start-ups, then running internal tech talks and hack-days to diffuse knowledge across the group.
• • Balance multiple concurrent projects with shifting priorities; apply agile methodologies to iterate quickly, test hypotheses early and pivot when the evidence demands it.
• • Contribute to a culture of intellectual honesty—challenge assumptions, seek counter-examples and celebrate elegant failures that move the entire organisation forward.

� Requirements

• • STEM Master’s degree with a minimum grade of 105/110 (PhD welcome); proven track record modelling complex, real-world problems.
• • Hands-on scripting experience in Python (preferred), R or MATLAB for data analysis, statistical modelling and visualisation.
• • Demonstrated ability to manipulate large, messy data sets and translate them into actionable business insights.
• • Fluency in English (minimum B2) and Italian (minimum B2); excellent communication skills for both technical and executive audiences.
• • Nice-to-have: working knowledge of BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) and prior exposure to financial-market data or fintech products.
