📋 Description

• BlaBlaCar is seeking a passionate and energetic Junior Data Scientist to join the Data CRT (Community Relation Team) and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our intelligent support systems. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a leading community-based travel app that facilitates millions of journeys annually across 21 countries, powered by a diverse team of 800 employees.
• As a Junior Data Scientist, your core mission will be to develop and deploy cutting-edge machine learning models and intelligent automation solutions that directly enhance the experience of our millions of BlaBlaCar members. You will be instrumental in optimizing our customer support ecosystem, ensuring that every member feels heard and receives prompt, effective assistance.
• A key aspect of your role will involve enhancing platform trust and efficiency. This includes building sophisticated automation solutions, such as real-time fraud detection systems to safeguard our community and AI-powered content moderation for both text and images to maintain a safe and reliable platform. You will also explore and leverage generative AI capabilities for tasks like automated translation, significantly improving communication and support across different languages.
• You will be empowered to drive data-driven decisions by creating impactful data products and applications. These tools will provide actionable insights that directly influence BlaBlaCar's strategic direction and commercial success, allowing the business to adapt and thrive in a dynamic market.
• Furthermore, you will be at the forefront of pioneering generative AI within the company. This involves exploring innovative use-cases to boost internal efficiency, automate critical operational tasks, and democratize data access, making data-driven insights more accessible to all teams.
• Your responsibilities will encompass the full lifecycle of machine learning model development and deployment. You will design, build, and ship models into production, working collaboratively with fellow Data Scientists and ML Engineers to directly improve our core marketplace functionalities, such as matching algorithms and estimated time of arrival (ETA) predictions.
• You will implement intelligent automation for internal capabilities, including the development of real-time fraud detection mechanisms and the utilization of deep learning for profile picture moderation. Leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) for text moderation and applying generative AI for tasks like translation will also be a significant part of your contribution.
• Contributing to generative AI innovation is a core part of this role. You will actively identify, prototype, and implement generative AI solutions aimed at enhancing employee productivity and automating key operational processes, thereby streamlining workflows and freeing up valuable human resources.

• You will be expected to develop and deploy ML models, design, build, and ship machine learning models into production, collaborating closely with other Data Scientists and ML Engineers to directly enhance our core marketplace (e.g., matching, ETA).
• Implement automation of internal capabilities: Implement intelligent solutions for real-time fraud detection, utilize deep learning for profile picture moderation, and leverage LLMs for text moderation and generative AI for tasks like translation.
• Contribute to generative AI innovation: Actively identify, prototype, and implement generative AI solutions to enhance employee productivity and automate key operational processes.

• Collaborate across a 360° data team: Work within our autonomous data team, comprising ML Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Engineers, and fellow Data Scientists, managing projects end-to-end.

🎯 Requirements

• At least 1 year of professional experience in data or software engineering, with experience putting Machine Learning models in production or producing data-based applications.
• Knowledge of Machine Learning theory, statistics and probabilities and/or econometrics modeling.
• Fluency in SQL and Python. Knowledge of main machine learning packages (scikit, XGBoost, etc) and/or MLOPs frameworks (KubeFlow, Tensor FLow, Vertex AI, etc) are a plus.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain models to both analysts and decision-makers.
• Pragmatic approach to problems, capable of designing intermediate solutions in an agile environment and putting them into production.
• Strong business sense, with a desire to partner with business managers to propose new strategies and validate hypotheses through data.
• Fluent in English.
