Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • Join OpenAI's groundbreaking Marketing Innovation pod as a Data Scientist, where you will play a pivotal role in transforming how we engage with millions of customers and redefine marketing strategies through cutting-edge internal tools and agentic systems.
  • This is a unique opportunity to be embedded within a dynamic, cross-functional team comprising Product Managers and Engineers, directly contributing to the development of product-like systems that drive significant business outcomes.
  • Your primary focus will be on building and optimizing systems that deliver high-touch, consultative experiences to a vast base of Small and Medium-sized Business (SMB) customers, leveraging agentic lifecycle and sales processes.
  • You will be instrumental in creating systems that dynamically adapt messaging, creative content, and outreach strategies in real-time, based on sophisticated analysis of behavioral signals.
  • A key aspect of your role will involve powering intelligent routing, targeting, and engagement decisions at an unprecedented scale, while minimizing the need for human intervention through automation.
  • You will be responsible for defining and meticulously tracking success metrics for these advanced agentic marketing systems. This includes establishing critical leading indicators that facilitate rapid, weekly iteration and improvement cycles.
  • Examples of metrics you will define include incremental pipeline generated, conversion lift achieved, and the number of representative hours saved, ensuring a clear line of sight to business impact.
  • You will architect and implement robust measurement and experimentation frameworks designed for always-on systems. These systems will span various marketing functions, including lifecycle automation, creative generation, customer targeting, and intelligent routing.
  • This will involve employing a range of methodologies, such as controlled holdouts, staged rollouts, and sophisticated quasi-experimental techniques, to accurately assess system performance in complex, real-world environments.
  • A core responsibility is to collaborate closely with Product Managers and Engineers to ensure seamless instrumentation, rigorous evaluation, and continuous monitoring of system launches.
  • Your work will guarantee that every significant release is equipped with comprehensive observability and provides a credible, data-driven assessment of its incremental value and impact.
  • You will translate complex behavioral data and model-driven signals into actionable strategic decisions, determining precisely what initiatives to scale, where to implement interventions, and how to optimally allocate both human and computational resources across diverse customer segments.
  • You will be tasked with building and refining repeatable decision loops. These loops will encompass pre-launch criteria definition, post-launch performance analysis, and the subsequent determination of next actions, effectively converting raw analysis into tangible, shipped product enhancements and strategic shifts.
  • This role demands a deep understanding of customer journeys and the ability to identify opportunities for automation and optimization at critical touchpoints.
  • You will contribute to the development of predictive models that anticipate customer needs and behaviors, enabling proactive and personalized engagement strategies.
  • Your insights will directly inform the allocation of marketing budgets and resources, ensuring maximum return on investment.
  • You will be a key player in fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making throughout the marketing organization.
  • The ideal candidate will possess a strong curiosity for understanding user behavior and a passion for leveraging data to solve complex business problems.
  • You will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art AI technologies and contribute to the future of marketing automation and customer engagement.
  • This role offers significant visibility and impact, with the potential to shape the strategic direction of marketing at one of the world's leading AI research and deployment companies.
  • You will be at the forefront of innovation, applying advanced analytical techniques to real-world marketing challenges and contributing to OpenAI's mission of benefiting all of humanity.

🎯 Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in a highly quantitative role, such as Data Science or Decision Science, preferably within a product-led company focused on B2B growth.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing and interpreting experiments and causal inference in complex, always-on operational environments.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with a proven ability to work with and derive insights from messy, incomplete behavioral data.
  • A track record of successfully translating analytical findings into implemented product or strategic decisions.
  • Excellent business acumen and a proactive, action-oriented approach to problem-solving, with the ability to define success metrics for ambiguous problems.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and present complex findings to senior leadership.

🏖️ Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity compensation.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous paid time off and holidays.
  • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.
  • Access to cutting-edge AI research and technology.
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment.
