- • As a Data Scientist on Shipt's Search Science team, you will directly contribute to improving sponsored search capabilities to grow ad revenue—a key business priority—while maintaining a high-quality customer experience. Your work will help evolve toward a unified ranking system that balances relevance, monetization, and retention, making a measurable impact on both business outcomes and user satisfaction.
- • Day to day, you will conduct data analysis to identify improvement opportunities in search and ads, build dashboards, run exploratory analyses, and present insights to stakeholders to inform product and strategy decisions. You will contribute to models that balance organic relevance with ad monetization, implement and test ranking improvements using established ML techniques, and collaborate with Senior Scientists and ML Engineers who will mentor your growth.
- • You will work alongside a team of Senior Scientists and ML Engineers within Shipt’s Search Science group, a team focused on advancing the platform’s advertising and search relevance through data-driven innovation. This team operates at the intersection of machine learning, product strategy, and user experience, supporting Shipt’s mission to connect customers with the products they love.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in machine learning applied to ranking and recommendation systems, gain hands-on experience with large-scale production ML pipelines, and develop your ability to translate complex data insights into actionable business strategies—positioning you for growth into more advanced data science or ML engineering roles.
🎯 Requirements
- • Degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Statistics, etc.) with coursework or projects in machine learning
- • 1–3 years of experience applying data science or machine learning to real-world problems (internships count)
- • Strong coding skills in Python and SQL
- • Familiarity with ML frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and their application to ranking, recommendations, or NLP
- • Understanding of ranking concepts and experience with feature engineering
- • Comfort working with large datasets and drawing actionable insights from data
